Hi! We have booked Motel 6 for our July '08 trip - our first trip to DL! We will need to get 2 adults, one 12 year old and a black lab to the kennel as early as possible each day. We would like to be in line 20- 30 minutes before park opening.

Is it an OK walk if we are all reasonably fit? We'd love the dog to have the extra walk at the beginning and end of each day. Can we get to the kennel and main gate fairly easily from that direction? The other option is using transit (we could take turns walking the dog and meeting at the kennel) or driving our car and parking.

Which is easiest/fastest/most convenient in your opinion?

Thank you!

The walk will be about 20 mins. It is a nice walk, but feels long to me after a long day. It is easy to access the kennel. You will not be allowed to bring the dog on the ART bus. You can drive to the Mickey and Friends and park. On the trams, it seems to be up to the CMs whether they will let you ride. I have seen them refuse a person with a dog, but also know Darkbeer has taken his dog on the trams. I know we have taken out dog on (service dog) and they looked at his cape.

Just a reminder to bring the dog's health records. They require rabies, distemper, and hep vaccines. Surprisingly, they don't require bordetella.

I would walk, the distance is under a mile. Pretty simple, head west on Disney Way to Harbor, go North one block to the Pedestrian Entrance, and then enter the security check, and make a hard right to the kennel.

When walking, I recommend that you cross Harbor at Disney Way rather than walking north on Harbor and crossing at the main pedestrian crossing.

Thank you all for the information. :) It sounds like a very doable walk. I especially appreciate the walking directions!

Leap for Joy...is the recommendation to cross at DW due to congestion on the pedestrian crosswalk or some other reason? (Just curious!)

Thanks again! :D

Here is a marked map from the Front Lobby of the Motel 6 to the Kennel.

Works out to .8 of a mile one way.

There is congestion at the main pedestrian crosswalk, but my motivation for crossing at DW is aesthetics. When walking on the East side along Harbor, you're on a sidewalk right next to the road. When you cross at DW, you're walking on a sidewalk that gets separated from the road by a small parking lot, and you're on Disney property so there is nice landscaping along the way. :)

That makes sense - thanks! :)
