View Full Version : Can I say I can't stand all the new forums?
The old man 10-17-2007, 04:47 PM I never know where to look--7 forums for WDW? It seems also that people don't know where to post as messages have to keep being moved. Also it seems that the number of posts have slowed down, particularly in WDW. You would know if this is a fact or not.
Remember Louis Sullivan said, "Less is more."
cstephens 10-17-2007, 06:44 PM I wasn't sure how I would like all the new forums either, but I'm finding that it doesn't really bother me. I only use "new posts" to read, so I decide based on the thread title whether or not something a particular thread interests me. (Oh, and thanks to staff for fixing non-descriptive titles - very much appreciated.) I don't necessarily even pay attention to the forums themselves.
On the occasions when I start a thread, I start it where I think it fits best, and I figure if it belongs somewhere else, someone will move it. No biggie.
It might take a while for people to learn what forum is the right one to post their comments to. If they see that their threads are being moved a lot, maybe they'll get the idea.
And no matter what, there are the people who are going to post in the wrong forum even if there are only two forums to choose from.
The old man 10-17-2007, 08:33 PM Unless I'm missing a trick it's that I have to click on so many forums to see if their are new interesting threads. It's a little tedious.

Do you use the "New Posts" link? At the top of the page, underneath the box that has your login information, there's a line of links - User CP, FAQ, Members List, Subscribe, Calendar, New Posts, Search, Quick Links, Log Out. If you click on the New Posts link, it will show you all the threads that have new posts in it. You can then pick and choose which threads you want to read, depending on what you're interested in. If you're really going into each and every forum and then looking at the threads, I agree that it's a pretty tedious process!

No! I will now.
stan4d_steph 10-18-2007, 10:33 AM You can also mark a forum read if you have reviewed all of the threads with new posts that you want to read. A quick way to do this from the main page is to double click on the icon to the left of the forum name.
Then when you return, you will know that there are new posts, not just new posts that you weren't interested in the first time.

You can do the Reader's Digest version and just click "New Posts".
nursemelis374 10-19-2007, 12:36 PM I also use the new posts feature also which is easier on smaller boards such as this.
The old man 10-19-2007, 02:09 PM Thank you for all the tips.
magicpointeshoe 12-01-2007, 10:55 AM I typically don't use the new posts features because the majority of the boards I don't want to read. If there was a way to choose which boards showed on the new posts feature, then maybe I wouldn't be a whiny baby right now about it. The amount of moved threads in the Disneyland forums drives me bonkers.
Drince88 12-01-2007, 11:52 AM If there are whole forums you don't want to read - you can mark all of them read from the first, like mentioned eariler - and THEN do the new post function.
(I'll let someone else answer the question about personalizing new posts.)

Cathy's answer is the best way right now, but we are looking into the possibility of personalized forum view/new posts settings.

Thanks! I didn't know this trick.
Kathlynn AtDisney 12-03-2007, 05:55 PM hello, I read this discussion with interest as I posted in the "introduce yourself" forum, but when I try to check if anyone has responded I can't even find my post. When I use the search function, I find my post, but still don't know where it is in which forum? I'm very new to this online forum, but because I teach online, I'm really comfotable with threads and forums in general, but I'm a bit lost here.
In addition to introducing myself, I really wanted some feedback on an idea I and another Disney fan have for putting together a seminar where not only are we on property, but part of the credit is earned while out "playing" in the parks. I'm hesitant to put time/effort/money into something like this unless I have a sense that it is an idea with possibilities for those of us who like to play at Disney and when possible want to earn our continuing education out of a "lecture type" set-up. I have no idea which forum to put something like this in. Ideas for posting this new thread and for finding where I'm "located" in the intro thread? Thanks for all your help. Sounds like a good group of folks to "talk" Disney with! Kathlynn

If you can find your post, you just need to look at the top of the thread to find out where the thread is. There's a string of information that tells you exactly where something is. For instance, on this thread, the string at the top says: "MousePad > Community Center > Administration > Can I say I can't stand all the new forums?" That means you're on MousePad, in the Community Center Section, in the Administration forum, on the topic "Can I say I can't stand all the new forums?"
If you posted in the "introduce yourself" thread, that should be in the lounge forum. Here's the thread, (http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/showthread.php?t=70502) and here's your specific post. (http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/showpost.php?p=1163434&postcount=255) In my view, you're on page 11, 5th post on the page, but yours may be different if your view is set up differently.
If you look at string at the top, you'll see: "MousePad > Community Center > Lounge, Welcome new members! Please introduce yourself here", so you're on MousePad, in the Community Center section, in the Lounge forum, in the "introduce yourself" thread.
Hope that helps.
Kathlynn AtDisney 12-04-2007, 10:04 PM yes your information does help. I think there are just so many words on the page I didn't see the "breadcrumbs" trail for identifying where I was:) I'm good now.
