View Full Version : Adults! [without children enjoying Disney]
flyers fan 10-17-2007, 11:06 AM My husband and I have no child, but still demanding going to Disneyland or Disneyworld every year...Just wondering how many couples out there with no kids go also? Just be nice to know that we are not the only disney freaks out there?
Kwahati 10-17-2007, 12:01 PM My "family" is all in our mid 20's...that doesn't make us "kids," does it?:p
Greg in TN 10-17-2007, 12:14 PM My wife & I do have kids (2 actually), and have taken them to Walt Disney World many times. On two other occassions, though, we have gone by ourselves--leaving the kids at home with grandparents. Both times our "solo" trips have been around business meetings that I've had in Orlando anyway.
We've done the whole thing -- use Disney's Magical Express from the airport; stay on-site @ a Disney resort; ride Disney transportation; go to any shows &/or rides that we want to; we've even done a character meal without the kids. We've had a great time; would easily do it again if the situation presents itself, but overall, we do enjoy having our kids with us too. :D
officesa 10-17-2007, 12:32 PM I'm planning my first Disney trip for next year, it will just be the hubby and me. Travelling without kids doesn't mean you have to go someplace boring, it just means you have less luggage and get to eat nicer meals (because you have more money in your pockets after buying souvenirs!)
BTW, we watch "kids" movies in the theater, too. And you should see the goofy photos we took on our last trip to the Houston Museum of Natural History!
MoKat72 10-17-2007, 12:58 PM My husband and I are both in our 30s and we go all the time. We like doing all the adult stuff and we like seeing and chatting with other adults and with children in the parks as the opportunity arises. The only time we feel weird is when the occasional parent glares at us like we're just waiting for them to turn their backs so we can kidnap their child. That doesn't happen often, though, since most families we encounter are just so happy to be there that they're all plenty chatty.
bellefan 10-17-2007, 02:08 PM Neither my sister nor I have kids and we bought into DVC which means we go AT LEAST once a year (trip number 4 this year coming up). Its always nice to see the kids enjoying the parks but then I realize that I get to sleep if I want! I have traveled with nieces and nephews and going alone is just more flexible and gives me time to enjoy the "Adults Only" parts even more!
Gawsh 10-18-2007, 05:17 AM My wife and I had a chance last year for our Tenth wedding Anniversary to go without the kids. We probably did more character interaction without them than with. They are both teenagers, and I think just humor us by getting pictures with the characters. All in all, I think we enjoyed as much without the kids than with them.
littlej 10-18-2007, 06:40 AM Millions of Disney honeymooners can't be wrong! (myself included!) My hubby and I are squeezing in one last trip before we feel too guilty NOT to take our little guy. He's 18 months now, and we rationalized that he wouldn't appreciate a trip at this age the way we do. Hey, there's plenty of time to spoil him later!

we honeymooned at WDW - then a couple of years later when our eldest son was 1 we went without him. Then in 05 we went down for a long weekend without the boys. I'll go without them again at some point I figure. My husband is a WDW nutcase!!!
gojoe 10-18-2007, 01:32 PM I have a granddaughter, age 12 and my wife has daughter age 12. I also have a daughter who lives in the Orlando area. She once worked a Prime Time but won't admit it. Well we are going home to Boardwalk Villa for the first time in 54 day 14 hrs and a few minutes. We travel to Disney at least once a year as a couple and every other year as a family. We never tell anyone when we only go as a couple. We don't feel guilty a bit. You get to go at your pace. The kids just slow us down. So much to do and so little time to do it. Have fun.
stogie711 10-18-2007, 04:38 PM Hi everyone..I'm a newbie here. My wife and I do not have any kids, but we've spent our anniversary at WDW almost every year for the last 10 years. In fact we are leaving tomorrow for Ft Wilderness Campground and 9 exciting days at WDW..celebrating 17 years next week.
I was there in August with my kids. On a whim I just booked a trip with my sister for January :) My husband and I went twice without kids and three times with our kids...this time it will just be two 40 ish girls. I can't wait. We can do all the things our kids deem boring and not have to ask any one if they have to use the restroom before joining a line. My son usually announces he has to go just as we are about to board the ride (LOL). I'm also looking forward to not carrying my giant Disney bag.
dizneyraver 10-22-2007, 08:36 AM We're DINK's (double income, no kids) and have enjoyed disney parks for years. Growing up, my family went at least once a year and for a while my partner continued that tradition with me, even getting annual passes a couple times. We don't go to WDW every year any more, some times to DL or just other trips that (dare i say it?) aren't disney :)
Partner's dad died about 7 years ago and since then we have traveled more with his mom. Several years ago we took her to WDW and she had never been. I remember her saying she had no idea a place like that existed. That was a magical experience and we have taken her several times since, and we are taking her again in about 11 days! She is kinda like our kid, it's all new to her and it's fun to see her enjoy herself.

LOL! Parents are funny like that, aren't they? My family took us to WDW several times, but we always stayed offsite to save money. In 2004 my DH and I decided to take them and treat them to their first onsite stay, since we enjoyed it so much. It was like they were there for the first time! They said they couldn't believe how much it added to the experience, and they'd never stay offsite again.
jennynoel 10-24-2007, 08:46 AM Another mid-20's couple here. In the last year we've gone to both Disneyland and Disney World with my Mom tagging along.
In December we're taking our first "just the two of us" trip to Disney World.
DVC Mike 10-24-2007, 09:49 AM Another couple here with no kids. We go to WDW 3-4 times a year.
JustDucky2000 10-24-2007, 11:08 AM DH and I are childfree locals with annual passes. We go (on average) once a week. We've been doing it ever since we moved here, almost 11 years ago. We also attend the special events. We've been to the Halloween Party twice so far this year and will be going again on Friday.
ourtrip 10-25-2007, 05:58 PM my wife and i went on our honeymoon 8 years ago - it was the first trip there for both of us. we have been back every year and plan to continue doing so until we get bored (don't see that happening anytime soon).

My fiance and his family and myself and my family all went for last new years celebration. Out of the 9 of us. . .there was one child (the rest of us were 25+) :P I think its the best w/o kids sometimes. You dont have to worry about naps, random food and potty issues etc. . :P
cocoabeach 10-31-2007, 11:24 AM We went several times before we had kids and loved it.
We loved being able to change our pace and sometimes we'd run from ride to ride while other times we'd just hang out in a store or show (things young kids make it hard to do). Downtown Disney was far more pleasant. We love to eat at restaurants and soak in the atmosphere.
Plus there is the obvious benefit of being able to, well, go back to the room early. Kinda hard to do with kids in tow
Mrs Mouse 10-31-2007, 11:31 AM DH-to-be and I do not have kids, but we are still complete Disney freaks! We have taken 3 trips to Disneyland with his family (including his young niece and nephew) and one trip on our own. We will be spending our upcoming honeymoon at WDW. Kids or no kids, it's still the happiest place on earth! :D
princessy777 10-31-2007, 11:50 AM Me and my boyfriend are 30 and 35 respectivley and we have been to Disneyland about 8 times this year. We go by ourselves, with just my 6 year old niece and once with the whole family. All the trips were fun but when it is just the two of us we can practice all our little traditions. You find the romance at Disneyland when you are alone.
