View Full Version : Costco vouchers for Character Breakfast upgrade question
letitsnow 10-17-2007, 09:29 AM Has anyone gotten these and upgraded to Character Dinner? The cm's that do priority seating don't really know how it works. They just tell me that they might charge me the difference. However, I'm not sure what value they go by. Does the vouchers have an actual value on them? I believe their prices went up in September but I know that Goofy's kitchen is still accepting them.
Thanks for any input. Also does anyone know what is on the menu for dinner? Is it worth it?
Second Star 10-17-2007, 02:59 PM When we were there in December, I had book a Princess Lunch and then forgot to call for Priority Seating as early as possible(big mistake). Anyway, so we decided to go over to Goofy's Kitchen for Dinner. They took the Princess Lunch vouchers and charged us the difference between those and the cost of the Goofy's Dinner.
Hope this helps :)
dawnid 10-17-2007, 03:11 PM The difference was $8.65 but that may have gone up, I'd figure at least $10 more per person to be on the safe side. If the CM at the register doesn't know how have them ask around, its never been a problem in the past. Goofy's kitchen does have a big selection, I'm just not a big fan of buffets so I'm not the one to give a big thumbs up on the food but I like the characters and the upbeat ambiance.
HobbitFeet 10-17-2007, 05:21 PM Have you called Costco/Disney? They were able to give me lots of info, for instance the upgrade value of our tickets, on phone calls with them. Just call the number they give, work your way through Costco Travel's phone tree, and eventually you'll be talking to Disney agents (who will answer the phone Costco -style). Very helpful, I've found them. :)
letitsnow 10-18-2007, 07:40 AM i just called costco/disney. they told me that the vouchers are complimentary and that i would just have to purchase the goofy's dinner at full price. does that sound right?

I don't know which vacation package you booked at Costco, but, I just checked the Costco site for the DLH vacation package. It indicates that the character breakfast is included for free. The cost for the package on the Costco site (with cb) is the same as package on DL site (without cb), so the CM you spoke with could be right.
My recommendation would be to go over to Goofy's Kitchen as soon as you get there, and ask the CM there if you can change the character breakfast for a Goofy's Dinner and pay the difference? My guess is that they'll probably do that for you.
HobbitFeet 10-18-2007, 12:26 PM Hmm. It both sounds right and wrong.
Our vouchers absolutely had a cost value on them...the cost of the b'fast was right there. There might have been coding that said Costco Travel somewhere, but when handing over the vouchers to our server at Lilo and Stitch it's not like anyone said "oh those are free".
I wonder if you called back, would you get a different answer...that does tend to happen with calling them.
As for whether dinner is worth it over b'fast, to me it wouldn't have been.
Looks like the DLH menus are a bit outdated on this site, but it might give you an idea. http://www.dlresortinfo.com/
HobbitFeet 10-18-2007, 12:28 PM And by the way, our vouchers were the "complimentary" ones thrown in with a Costco package. We didn't pay extra for them.
OK well actually, by the time we actually booked, prices were changing around so much that in REALITY, our Costco package was almost exactly the cost more than AAA's package as the cost of our "free" b'fast vouchers...but officially, they were included for free.
dawnid 10-18-2007, 12:58 PM Repeat after me, nothing is for free, nothing is for free.......in business the cost of perks and discounts are offset by upping the cost of other elements of the package. AAA has a magic moments discount (10% off the room rate), Costco has the "free" character breakfast and they are comparable in price. The only true discount are CM discounts & AP discounts which are offset or paid by anyone paying full boat all year long.

While you are correct, nothing is ever really free, I did check out identical stays at the DLH on the Costco site and the DisneyTravel site. The cost was the same, to the penny. The only difference was the included character breakfast on the Costco package. I don't know about the AAA package, but I'd have to say it certain appears to be a free breakfast from Costco. ;)
HobbitFeet 10-18-2007, 05:39 PM dawnid, while at the time we booked the price involved was obvious, just a week or so before we booked, it was lower, and therefore the same price as the other packages...which would have meant, if we booked then, that we were getting something VERY extra that we would not have gotten with the other packages. Therefore, for all intents and purposes at that time, if we had booked when the prices were the same, it would have been "free".
However, once the price went up, it was still fine for us, b/c we wanted to have one character meal, and doing what was effectively pre-paying for it was fine. :)
I only wanted to mention that my character b'fast was "included" b/c I didn't want to leave it up to interpretation where someone might think that we had outright and explicitly paid, outside of our package, for the character meal and that's why it had prices on the vouchers. :)
