We have a standard room reservation at DGC. If there is any flexibility when we arrive, does anyone have a recommendation for what view or other type of upgrade we should request, oh so politely?
Also, I've read that there are DVD players in each room at DGC. Is this true and do they play CDs? My daughter has a CD she listens to to fall asleep and want to know if I need to pack a CD player. Oh, please, please say I don't need to! <grin>

There are DVD players in the rooms, but the only room I had a CD player in was a concierge room. They have those really nice Bose ones. I just got back today from the GCH, standard room, and I had a courtyard view which I find very peaceful. I love watching the monorail go by, and it is usually pretty quiet out there. A standard room can be a view of the city street or the courtyard, so I always request the courtyard. Last time, I had a city street view, I got to watch the valet parkers, which wasn't quite as much fun as watching the monorail.

We've stayed at the GCH hotel numerous times. The first few times we stayed in standard view rooms. We were not lucky enough to receive an upgrade but it was at busy times. Twice we had a resort view. The first time we stayed it was a wonderful view. The second time we paid for a resort view room it was an obstructed view. We requested a room change but for the money we paid the view was not worth it. CA adventure closed at 6:00 and they turned off a lot of the lights so it wasn't much to look at. Our last trip we had a downtown Disney view. That was a lot of fun however it was loud. The hotel is so beautiful and there is so much to do we spent little time in our room to enjoy the view. We've had fun trying new views but I think next time we go we will stick with a standard view.
Enjoy your trip!!

Most standard DVD players will also play CDs. I see no problem there, but just in case, call the hotel and see if they will bring up a portable CD player if needed.

Also we were just there in September and the alarm clock plays CDs too. We did not try it but noticed it would play CDs.

We stayed there in March with a Downtown Disney View - i highly recommend this! View of fireworks from room 5165! Not noisey, and we had babies. Closed circuit TV plays fireworks music along to fireworks show. We've done themepark view, but Partyof5, you're right, the park shuts down:crying: and there is no view. DTD view is perfect for people watching!!!!
Check out my photos of the alarm clock/CD player on POST #25. http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/showthread.php?t=71657
Flat screen with DVD player.
A cd player alarm clock.
DTD view. Love it.
Have a great trip!!!!

We were just there in Sept and I agree with all of the above. We did not try the CD player with the alarm clock but it was there.
DTD view is my favorite. It is wonderful to lay in bed with the curtains open and watch the fireworks.

I had a DCA view in December and loved it. This was early in the month & I remember the park lights stayed on late enough to sit on the balcony & enjoy them. But what we really enjoyed was sitting out there in the early morning with coffee & paper & watching the CMs prepare the park for opening & it was really neat observing Grizzly River Run with the water turned off & then it being turned on like a giant water faucet! We're hoping to get a park view this December but a DTD view I think ,would be fun too. We had a standard view in May & it was nothing to write home about...a real let down after a park view, but we love this hotel so much, we're just glad to have ANY view!
