Top U.K. bishop slams 'Disney consumerism' (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20020723/people_nm/archbishop_1)- Reuters, 7/23/02
QuikQuote: The hot favorite to become the next spiritual head of the Church of England launched a blistering attack against the consumer society on Tuesday, saying it corrupted the young and made them prematurely sexually aware.
Entertainment giant Walt Disney Co, child talent shows and computer games came under particularly heavy fire from Rowan Williams, the current Archbishop of Wales and favorite to be named this week as the 104th Archbishop of Canterbury and leader of the world's 70 million Anglicans.

Ah, he's just upset because Disney built in France rather than in London ..........
Actually, Disney pretty much holds the line against blatant sexuality in most of their pursuits.
What country is it where the daily paper has pinup girls on page 3?
What country is it that popularized punk rock with all of it's dirty lyrics?
What country is it that routinely shows television programs with nudity on their regular channels?
One guess .............

AS: Why England of course!
You know, that country that wrote their own Bible when the King found that he didn't like the one the Vatican was using ..........

It sounds like someone's trying to make the news to attract attention to himself and his campaign to run the church. What would be a good way to do that? Hmmm... Oh I know... By attacking a highly popular company for...something... let's say... consumerism. Yeah, that's it. ;)
It's harmless to Disney, but helpful to him getting to a position of power.

Disney actually issued an official response through a spokesperson. I'm a little surprised that they didn't just ignore this, but I guess the Archbishop of the Church of England was a little too high-profile a source to ignore.
This BBC Article (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/wales/2147770.stm) outlines both the bishop's comments and Disney's response.

Consumerism - of course!
Sexuality - definitely not!
I guess some UK folks are still bitter about the commercial and financial success that all of their "rejects" have had in North America since 1776 .........
