View Full Version : ClubDisney Restaurant...where did they go?
JhayesWB 07-24-2002, 11:15 AM Hello everyone. I am new to this board, and was wondering if anyone knew what happened to the ClubDisney Restaurants? It was kinda of like Chuck E. Cheese mixed with Disneyland, and my wife and I took our nephew to one in West Covina, California several years ago. We were thinking of taking our son (2 1/2) but I can't find any information on the web about it at all. Did they all close down? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance! :)
adriennek 07-24-2002, 11:46 AM I want to say that there's still one open in Chicago, but I'm pretty sure that the So Cal locations closed.

I thought I read a while back that the one in Chicago was closing also. Maybe Efoxx knows...
If he doesn't know, I will find out next month when we go to Chicago....(but by then I am sure you will have your answer);)
MonorailMan 07-24-2002, 12:03 PM It seems to be that there all gone. :(
JhayesWB 07-24-2002, 01:16 PM Thanks to everybody that posted. I figured that they had closed up shop...just wanted to see if anyone had any details. Thanks again.
Alex S. 07-24-2002, 01:58 PM Near as I can find, all locations (5 of them) were closed as of November 1, 1999.
The first location opened in Thousand Oaks.
Locations were:
Thousand Oaks, CA -- Los Angeles area -- opeened in November 1997
West Covina, CA -- Los Angeles area -- opened on 2/15/98
Chandler, AZ -- Phoenix area -- opened on 1/9/99
Lone Tree, CO -- Denver area -- opened mid 1999
Glendale, AZ -- Phoenix area -- opened on 2/12/99
Some of the stores were profitable but the enterprise as a whole did not generate a sufficient ROI for Disney to keep them open.
It doesn't appear there was ever a Chicago location, Adrienne. Perhaps you are thinking of DisneyQuest? They had locations in Chicago and Orlando (in Downtown Disney). I know the Orlando location is still around, but the Chicago location died last year.
Nigel2 07-24-2002, 11:53 PM Well a few years ago on Disney auctions they were selling off various decor and games from the Club Disney's... so they have been on the way out for a while.
efoxx 07-25-2002, 07:43 AM there never was one here. DQ closed:mad: a while back. a number of years back a Disney store tried something called "Mickey's Kitchen". It was pretty good all things considered. the food was basic, real simular to what you get say at pinochio's village house, with the french fries cut to character shapes. it was very popular, especially among the birthday crowds. thern all of a sudden it closed up, with no explination.:(
I could've kept this thread in the Lounge, but I've moved it to the Business forum because the Club Disneys were opened as something of a business experiment by Disney (yet another project they decided to fold). I remember going to the one at Thousand Oaks with Al many years ago, but we didn't go inside because we didn't have any children with us, and adults couldn't enter unaccompanied.
Nigel2 07-26-2002, 12:01 AM Wasn't it basically like all those Discoveryzones, and so forth that all seemed to have folded.
coronamouseman 07-27-2002, 10:47 AM Weren't they also talking about building DisneyQuests all over the country?
Iceman 07-27-2002, 01:41 PM Indeed they were. "Disney Regional Entertainment" was to expand the Disney brand by building Club Disney, DisneyQuest, and ESPN Zone locations all over the place. The party line is that Club Disney and DisneyQuest did not generate enough profits to continue the projects, but that ESPN Zone has been wildly successful. So now the WDW DisneyQuest falls under the theme parks division, Club Disney has gone bye-bye, and ESPN Zone continues to expand...
