I ask because we are thinking of getting the iphones and Ive been on veriszon for years and I wonder how good ATT is? GusMan 10-08-2007, 04:44 PM I think the better question would be.... how's AT&T service been in SoCal while specifically using an iPhone? I say that because while the providers service is a huge factor, the type of phone is also a factor. Personally, I have used Verizon, Sprint, and AT&T. Each one has its pros and cons across the country but I personally have found AT&T's service to be very good in the vast majority of places. janell 10-08-2007, 05:22 PM Thanks Gus Man. I didn't know the type of phone would make a difference. But I do now. Thanks. cyberwoozle 10-08-2007, 06:00 PM Janell, I live and work in west l.a. - cell service can be spotty, but the iPhone I have seems to get a little better reception than my older Nokia did. I don't appear to have too many issues down in the O.C. when I have visited the park, etc. other than that, I love the phone. lots of people have various complaints, but I love it. it's only costing me $13 more than my old phone/plan, and I have almost unlimited internet access! (flash is the only thing "missing") drp... janell 10-09-2007, 10:30 AM Thanks DRP. I think cell service is spotty on all carriers. Right now I can't get cell reception at my house but my friend on a different carry can. Its crazy. Not sure why they can't be the same. JamesDL 10-16-2007, 01:01 AM Well I live in SoCal and have an iPhone with ATT. I came from Verizon using their LG eNv (VX9900). The reception of ATT for me is not as good as Verizon. The clarity of my Verizon service was awesome. I don't get that with ATT. I was talking on the phone with my friend the other day and it kept cutting out. I then used my sister's Verizon phone to call her back and I was shocked how crystal clear it was. I kind of miss Verizon because of the clarity + everyone I knew had Verizon. HOWEVER, I love my iphone and probably would not trade it for any other phone that any other company has at the moment. I paid $599 ($647w/tax) for my 8gb iphone and it was the best purchase I have made in a long time. Now at $399 I think it's a steal. The good: Full mp3 player capabilites (Not watered down like Verizon's mp3 cell phones) Beautiful crystal clear video player Email is great and easy to access quickly. Internet is just like using your computer. Not watered down at ALL. I can access my banking, ebay, message boards, pretty much anything without flash. Saves lots of text messages in a chat style Great calendar program compared to Verizon's LG ENV Weather at my fingertips Google maps is priceless to have on your phone. I use this so much and wonder how I ever lived without it. WIFI - makes browsing websites very fast when at home, work, coffee shops, airports, etc. Youtube... meh. Rarely use it. Great Stocks application if you are into the stock market. (I'm not) I really like the interface for the contacts. Visual voicemail is totally revolutionary for cell phones and again one of those things that you wonder how you ever managed without. The optional: I have mine hacked so I have a bunch of extra applications including: Voice recorder, Custom ringtones Chat client (Doesn't waste text msgs) RSS Reader Skin changer and customizer (Totally changes the look of the phone) To do list Money program (Pretty simple program but really helps keep track of finances) Nintendo emulator and games Text editor Blackjack game, Tic tac toe, tetris + more File browser + more Note: It's very easy to hack but only if you are on the iphone 1.0.2 firmware. 1.1.1 is hackable but not easy to do yet. The bad: No flash (referring to the type of code, not the camera) No flash (referring to the camera this time. lol) And as far as the camera goes, it's not that great. My LG env was way better. Keyboard takes some getting used to. Once you do tho, it's so fast and easy. Requires a restart once every few days otherwise it'll glitch out. 3rd party support is very weak and unless you hack your phone, you have no control over things such as ringtones, programs, skins, etc. EDGE network is pretty slow depending on where you are at. Sometimes it's worse than dialup. Most of the time not much faster than dialup. Sometimes a little peppy. All in all, I think it's a great purchase despite the flaws. janell 10-17-2007, 08:26 AM Thanks James. Thats very helpful. I wish ATT had good covarge like verison, but the internet capablity is so great with the iphone its hard to pass up. Im glad you like yours. Thank you for your help. |
