View Full Version : How Old? [Minimum Age for Cruise] shawnarae 10-04-2007, 08:37 PM What is the minimum age for a baby to cruise with Disney? Most ships are 6 months.....I could not find this info on their website. THX......anyone who knows! Tony 10-04-2007, 08:50 PM The minimum age is 12 weeks old. GusMan 10-07-2007, 06:20 AM For what its worth... GusJr went at 5 months old. They were very, very accommodating, to say the least. Karin 10-07-2007, 08:55 PM Cub Luster will be approx. 3 1/2-4 months old on the WB repo next year. We need everyone's positive thoughts and vibes, please, that we can get the passport in time! Niwel 10-08-2007, 09:02 AM Cub Luster will be approx. 3 1/2-4 months old on the WB repo next year. We need everyone's positive thoughts and vibes, please, that we can get the passport in time! :sending Pixie dust to the Luster family!: Andrew 10-08-2007, 10:34 AM I'm surprised newborn infants need passports, but it does appear to be the case (http://travel.state.gov/passport/get/first/first_830.html). mulansgirl 10-10-2007, 02:31 PM I was worried about getting my new babys passport for the cruise and she will be seven months at time of the WB repo. I was planning to go directly to the offices. I heard that would help it go faster than the post office. But our passport office is close to us I guess. if yours is then that might help you. My husband has all the info so sorry I could not be more help. We are still waiting on the ssn and need to get the birth cert. good luck and I guess see you on the cruise. Oh and if you have not yet call who you got your tickets from and tell them there will be an infant with you so they can get it in their logs and we paid about $300 fot her "ticket" I think. I did it as soon as we knew we were having a child. They just put it in as unknown infant and we called with her name and birthdate as soon as she was born, ok about five days after. Again good luck. Karin 10-12-2007, 04:05 PM Thanks, mulansgirl, we have already called and added "Infant Luster" to our reservation and I think you're right that it was an additional $300. We've told our MD that we'll need the birth certificate ASAP and she's agreed to help how she can by signing it right away and not letting it sit on her desk. I'm planning once we get that from the county to spend a long day at the Federal Bldg. waiting to get it done in ne or two days and to pay a hefty fee, but it'll be worth it so we can still go and take the Cub with us. See you there! Koala Gurl 10-17-2007, 10:03 PM I may be mistaken, but I think that if your travel is over 2 weeks away (I am guessing it will be...you said 3 1/2 - 4 months old right?) Anyway, you can only go to the Federal Building if your travel is within 2 weeks (or thereabouts.) If your travel plans are outside of the 2 weeks, you have to do the regular "Expedited" processing via the mail. If it makes you feel better, I just got my kids their passports, and it took under 12 weeks for normal (non-expedited) service. Seems the backlog is under control. (I realize you need time for the birth certificate as well...if you aren't already doing this...I suggest getting at least 2 copies while you are there. That way if something does happen, you have the documentation.) Karin 10-19-2007, 12:11 PM Interesting, Koalagirl. I didn't know that about going to the Federal Bldg. The 12 weeks would really be pushing it since we have to wait for time to get the birth cert, too. DCL will NOT let us on with just a birth cert for the baby. So that's out. Period. Two Bears 10-24-2007, 04:40 PM Unless you are leaving within two weeks or have need of a Visa quickly, the State Department does not allow in person visits without an apoointment. The normal procedure now is to go to your local post office and apply there. You can request expedited servicing on the application for an additional cost. As of right now, the backlog has been cleared and the normal processing of 12 - 16 weeks is in effect. Karin, for the new Cub, this should be more then enough time to get the passport prior to departure...........if you are at all nervous then you can go ahead and use expedited service. Also, most post offices do not take the passport photos there so you should bring them with you. The requirement is two (2) 2"x2" color photos. Also, it makes a great deal of sense to have the application filled out before you get to the Post Office. You can either get an application at the Post Office or http://travel.state.gov/passport/forms/forms_847.html. Also, here is the current processing time as posted onthe US Department of State Website: http://travel.state.gov/passport/get/processing/processing_1740.html. Karin 10-24-2007, 04:46 PM Thanks, TwoBears. We have the application already and know about needing the pictures. Planned to go to AAA to get those. Darn about the Feds not letting you go unless the trip is 2 weeks away. Yes, expediated service is the way we'll end up going as this is the one aspect of this trip that has us worried. No, we're not a bit worried (yet) about flying or traveling with an infant when neither of us have had one before, it's the darn passport issue that keeps me up at night! Having approx. 3 1/2 months to get the birth certificate (which we have to wait for the hospital to file it with the county) and then taking the certificate to get the passport and actually getting it in our hot little hands before May 3... geez! I'm sweating now just typing about it! Koala Gurl 10-24-2007, 05:33 PM You should be OK, but order that extra copy of the birth certificate in case you don't get the passport in time and need to go to the Federal Building. :) We used the online form, and applied at the post office, and it was significantly less than 12 weeks (maybe like 5 or 6?) We got them with time to go on our trip out of the country in January, and I remember they said 16 weeks would have been the end of December. We got them about 3 or 4 weeks ago. (I realize we got ours super fast, and that may not be the case when you apply, but just wanted to let you know that they didn't seem as backed up as before.) :) Two Bears 10-24-2007, 05:37 PM My apologies, the State Department does not allow walk-ins for any reason. You must have an appointment in order to file the Passport application with them and it would only be if you are leaving within two weeks or have need for a Visa quickly. Two Bears 10-24-2007, 05:44 PM Karin and all, if you really are worried, here are some alternative forms that wiould be accetable to the Department of State for the issuance of Cub Luster's passport. If you do NOT have a previous U.S. passport or a certified birth certificate, you will need : Letter of No Record Issued by the state with your name, date of birth, which years were searched for a birth record and that there is no birth certificate on file for you. AND as many of the following as possible: Baptismal certificate Hospital birth certificate Census record Early school record Family bible record Doctor's record of post-natal care NOTES: These documents must be early public records showing the date and place of birth, preferably created within the first five years of your life. You may also submit an Affidavit of Birth, form DS-10A, from an older blood relative, i.e., a parent, aunt, uncle, sibling, who has personal knowledge of your birth. It must be notarized or have the seal and signature of the acceptance agent. Of course the first item can be a trick tricky dpending on when you head over to records for the search. mulansgirl 11-20-2007, 11:51 PM I got our passport today. Baby born on 9-26-07 got ssn on 10-23-07 We went and got the birth cert on 10-25-07 applied for passport on 10-26-07 and recieved it today 11-20-07. We did not pay for rush on the passport and only went to the postoffice. We probably could have gotten the Birth cert sooner, but we didnt. I hope your passport experiance is as good as ours was, oh and the baby already does not look like the picture in the passport. They grow so fast. Karin 11-21-2007, 01:02 PM mulansgirl, do I need a ssn to get either the birth certificate and/or the passport? that was a step I wasn't thinking about needing to do at this point... eeek! VickiC 11-21-2007, 03:38 PM No you don't need and SSN to get a b/c. You do fill out the paperwork at the hospital at the same time that you fill out the b/c paperwork, usually the day after the birth the "paperwork lady" comes by with all sorts of stuff for you. Then the SSN comes in the mail in about a month. mulansgirl 11-25-2007, 07:15 PM Thats right they did not need the ssn for the birth cert. I was actually very suprised at how easy it was to get a copy. The hospital "paper lady" gave us papers to get the birth cert by mail but we just drove down and got it since we forgot to fill out and noterise the paper work for the mail. Oh be sure to get two copys of the birth cert since you have to send one with the passport aplication (thay do send it back) and it is good to have an extra one. You do need a SSN to write on the passport aplication though. I thing you should be safe at three and a half to four months since She got hers before she was two months old. And the lady at the post office told us to call a number she wrote on the recipt if we did not get the passport before a certain date, I think six weeks. We didnt need to but it nice to know we could. good luck. Karin 11-26-2007, 01:29 PM So I *do* need a SSN to get a passport? How long does it take to get that? mulansgirl 11-26-2007, 02:21 PM The paperwork for the ssn was taken care of before we left the hospital all we had to do was wait for it to come in the mail. ours came in a little less than a month. It was only two months ago but I cannot remember much of the paperwork process, only one day the SSN was in the mail. I had kinda forgot about all the SSN birth cert and passport stuff till it came in. So much else to do, mostly showing everyone the new baby because they all want to see. Good luck with that. I would get the paperwork from the postoffice to have it ready and know everything you need. But there should be no problem getting it by cruise time. If you get the paperwork in as soon as you get the SSN you should be fine. The whole process really should not take three and a half months. Karin 11-27-2007, 12:42 PM The whole process really should not take three and a half months. Your lips (or fingers, as the case may be) to the Feds ears, mulansgirl. We're terrified of not getting the passport in time and now having to wait to get the SSN in the mail is just going to delay the process further. Grrrr.... But, seriously, thank you for the heads up on that one! |
