You guys disappoint me! Only been once so far this year... but it's only beginning!

Thus far I would have to say, the Strawberry Shortcake from the US is my favorite thing, but I've only tried a few country's this year. Plenty more time to sample the rest! Look for me every Sunday afternoon!

Here's some photo's I took last Sunday:

There are a bunch of threads under touring the parks!

Well, I thought that's where they were. But glad you started this one.

What's been your favorite kiosk item so far?

ETA: They were in the news and events section!

Well I will check those out too then. Shouldn't they be under the Good Eats section? I go away for a few weeks and you guys change everything! ;)

Ok, I looked at your photos.

I'm kind of disappointed in the main entry areas - looks like they used a ton of 'flat' items to make the themes. I guess that would be more necessary when you're going with a 'theme' that isn't as recognizable.

And it's not a 'non-Disney Spaceship Earth' it's a 'cool, crisp, clean, futuristic entry way into Future World Spaceship Earth'

(Can you tell we're on opposite sides of the 'wand' discussion?! :D)

Well.. without the wand it doesn't look Disney at all, since Epcot isn't even what Walt wanted. :D But I digress. Looks like it's going to be a pretty cool festival year.

THANKS for starting this thread, PG! I'm SO looking forward to pariticipating in "eating around the world" next week--

Were the strawberry shortcakes REAL shortcakes (biscuit-like)? Did you try anything else (I posted the same question in the other discussion, but you're right--it probably belongs here!).

Loved your pics--keep em comin' on your future trips to the park.

Do you spend a lot of your "off-duty" days at the parks? I know I would if I were you!! :p

Yes, it was really shortcake, not angel food or pound cake. It was perfect... not too sweet. Just right.

I also had a Chilaquile in Mexico which was great. Fresh tortilla and spicy green sauce. Very yummy! My fiance had a Spicy Beef Empanada, from Argentina, which he really enjoyed (I skipped that one as I don't eat red meat).

Italy also had some VERY good looking pizza, but the line was pretty long so we skipped that one.

I also had The chicken Sha Cha in China, which is the same as last year and very good.

Yeah, I do spend a lot of time in the parks. I usually go once a week after work and on one of my days off. Especially when it's slow like this. I don't go as often when it's busy... but thats usually because work is so exhausting. :D At least that's in my current role... but I'm switching to a new job on the 14th. I can't elaborate, but I will say that it's going to be pretty Goofy. ;)

Did you happen to notice if they had Rosa Regale anywhere (Italian sparkling rose, but better than that sounds)? They've taken away my traditional 'last' item (crème brulee), and I'm not sure if I'll be able to handle it if they take away my favorite chocolate accompaniment as well!

Yeah the crème brulee issue upset my fiancé too, however they do have it at the Pastry Shop still, so we got one to split there (they are a little larger).

As for the Rosa Regale, neither fdh or I drink so we don't pay much attention to the wines. Sorry. I'll keep an eye out when I'm there on Sunday though.

Has anyone tried the buffalo medallions at the Oklahoma booth?

Pirate Girl

No, but I'm kinda wondering why there is an Oklahoma booth.

Oklahoma is trying to do LOTS of PR this year with their 100 year anniversary of Statehood. (Didn't they have something big in the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade this year?)

You pay the money, you get the booth, I'd presume!

Yeah, that makes sense... but I don't really see the point. I mean, who would be at the Food and Wine festival and say.. "Hey kids... the Buffalo Medallions are dang sweet! We're not coming back to Disney for Christmas, we're going to Oklahoma! Home of... flat?"

Or maybe "Hey kids, let's go to Oklahoma so we can see if the Cowman and Farmer are really friends"

Are the surries really pulled by a team of snow white horses??

I think one's like snow, but the other's more like milk. (Got milk?)

No, you've gotta say it like Elvis Billy -- "One's like snow the other's more like........ Mil-kh."

:me swoooooons:

Oops, sorry, wrong park. I'll back to the DLR forums...

Well.. without the wand it doesn't look Disney at all, since Epcot isn't even what Walt wanted.

Spaceship Earth looked totally Disney for 17 years or so, until some bright marketing person decided to put up a cartoon hand. Every time I see a picture of it these days my breath catches a little bit - it just looks so danged beautiful! And I don't think it's fair to say that Epcot the park isn't Disney because it isn't the city that Walt designed. Since 1966, everything the company has done has to stand for itself. The company's biggest problem in the late 60's and 70's was trying to second guess what Walt wanted. Very unhealthy.

Since when is the Food & Wine Festival strictly about promoting tourism? I'll probably never get to see 90% of the countries whose booths I've visited, but I'm very happy to sample some of their cuisine. Plus Oklahoma isn't exactly the most glamorous of states, so I'm betting that any good publicity helps!

So does anyone else have recommendations? I want to try the Dominican Republic food and maybe check out Germany. Is the spaetzle any good?

Not yet, but I'll have some ideas on the 23rd (if not before!)

I don't know if you're a drinker, but the plum wine is really incredible. It used to be in China's booth, but I think I remember it being in Japan last year. Kinda like a cinnamon wine - very tasty!
