View Full Version : I need to rent an ECV [at Disneyland]
codewoman 10-03-2007, 08:23 AM I know there must be a board or a post somewhere about Disney for the walking impaired, but I can't find it. Please point me to it.
Background: Trip starts TOMORROW. Told yesterday by doctor to walk as little on aching foot as possible. Sigh.
codewoman 10-03-2007, 08:41 AM Hey! I answered my own question. I'm staying at the DLH and they recommended Deckers so I called them. They'll deliver it to the Hotel on my checkin day (tomorrow!) and pick it back up at the end of the stay. Done. :D

CV12Pirate 10-03-2007, 07:49 PM I reserved mine through Scootaround.

A number of MousePad regulars have had unsatisfactory experiences with Alan's (how's that for polite) so I would not recommend contacting them.

codewoman 10-04-2007, 10:10 AM Decker's number (714) 542-5607. I spoke to Rick. I'll let you know how it all works out - after. But I anticipate it will go smoothly.
Wendy Bird 10-04-2007, 10:18 AM what is the price range for renting a standard ECV?
codewoman 10-04-2007, 10:47 AM Mine is costing $40 per day plus a $50 deposit that will be refunded if/when I return the keys and all. I don't know what they charge in the parks or what other companies charge. I chose this one because Disney recommended them and I don't have much flexibility if I have problems with the ECV.
adriennek 10-04-2007, 11:08 AM Please let us know how Deckers is when you get back!
Adrienne
codewoman 10-04-2007, 12:40 PM ^^^ Of course! I've already started my trip report. :)
samkj 10-04-2007, 06:53 PM Thanks for the info Adrienne. I have an old list, but will definitely remove Alan's from the list.
codewoman 10-08-2007, 01:33 PM I had a great experience with Deckerts. The scooter was at the bell desk when I arrived. It took some getting used to -- I ran into the back of the elevator on the way to the room. It had a small basket in the front and a pocket on the back of the seat. I was surprised to see it had two sets of headlights, turn signals and a little horn (not enough to get anyone's attention at Disneyland). Oh, and emergency flashers. It was very stable and turned on a dime. And I could ride/scoot faster than people could walk (if it wasn't crowded, of course). The arm rests could be folded up and the seat swivled if you needed it to get out. Pretty good scooter, in my inexperienced opinion.
There was a charge slip in the basket when we arrived for the agreed amount. I'll let you all know how the refund of the deposit works out when it happens.
DisneyJenn 10-21-2007, 08:12 PM My Dad used the Disneyland ECV's last month and they are really great. The only down side is that you can't take them out of the park (like DTD or the hotel (PP)). He had to walk, which was ok for him, but thanks to those who posted the other options because both my parents need them and now we have more options for next time! Definately post you experience with Deckerts. I'd be excited to hear!
The Disneyland ECV's are $35 per day + $20 refundable deposit. Not too bad, but if we can get one for $40 from the hotel, that would be worth $5!
Crazy4DL 10-25-2007, 06:56 PM I had a great experience with Deckerts.
Ditto on your experience with Deckerts.
No trouble at all with batteries that don't hold a charge! *whew*
Another thing, I have reserved scooters for a trip in the near future and since it is my second time of renting from them I didn't even have to do the deposit and got a 5% discount. :)
Malcon10t 11-02-2007, 07:38 PM I used Deckert's this last trip. I was quite pleased. The ECV was great, the charge lasted for 2 days between charges. They billed me and refunded the deposit quickly. I will use them again!
codewoman 11-05-2007, 06:41 PM I forgot to report in on the refund of my deposit by Deckert. It appeared on my statement the day after we turned in the scooter. Two thumbs up!
Malcon10t 12-10-2007, 01:55 PM I called and scheduled my scooter with Deckert. Dec 22-Jan2. $190 (5% discount for being a repeat customer, no deposit required.)
Does anyone here know if Disneyland's ECVs can be reserved? We're going on Tuesday & I know Mom wants to rent one. I'm just afraid they'll sell out...

I think we got lucky. We didn't get to the ECV rental counter until about 12:20, but they still had at least a couple of ECVs available. Phew!
Tinkermommy 12-27-2007, 08:48 AM Another ECV question -- my mother wants to go to Disneyland. It would be a day trip, so no hotel involved. She ordinarily uses a walker, but moves verrrrry slowly. We would need to rent an ECV at Disneyland.
What I can't figure out is how to get her from the car to the rental site. If she has to use her walker to the tram, etc, it will take her all day. I'm not sure she could even step up to the tram.
Is there an alternative?
Thanks!

The only things I can think of is that I know there is some van service available for the disabled--maybe someone else knows details--or rent a scooter from Deckert's or another off-site service and let her ride from the car--there is a ramp to get on the tram.
adriennek 12-27-2007, 07:29 PM What's the reason to get her an ECV instead of a wheelchair? Might you be able to either rent a chair near your home or see about getting her a chair?
If she's that slow with her walker, a chair may really free all of you up to more opportunities and outings than just Disneyland. And, it would really solve this problem because you wouldn't have to get all the way to the entrance before you get some help.

That's a good question. It's a weight issue. I forgot that she has a chair; she rarely uses it. I don't think I can push her all day in it. I tried at Epcot in Sept. when her rented ECV malfunctioned, but after a few hours, I was done in.
I'm thinking Disneyland is flatter and cooler, and maybe it wouldn't be so hard, but I suspect she'd be happier being more independent.
I could definitely push her to the tram and back in the chair. Does anybody know if they will store her chair if I can wheel her to the rental point and rent an ECV?
Thanks for the help!
