And where from?? How long does it take? We usually drive from NY in 16-18 hrs since 2002.We just stopped flying then...Last trip in April we actually drove to Clearwater Beach first and did an overnight because we had a 10 month old with us.He lasted till Georgia ---no problems at all!!!! DD 11 loves the drive!

We drive. It's about 2.5 hours from my door until we park at POP, other resorts take a few more minutes.

I could never drive from NY, I hate to sit in the car. ;)

We have many many many times.

From Memphis it's 14-18 hours depending on traffic ect.
(Mainly hitting Atlanta at just the right time!)
If we leave the house by 5 in the morning, then we get there between 7 and 11 pm, baring traffic jams, road closures, bad wrecks, rain, road construction or whatever.
We have tried possible every route from here to there.

I would rather fly.
I love to fly.
But good fares out of Memphis are rare!

We flew this August.
Our whole crew of 8.
We got a really good fare.
I love it...1.5 hours flying time.

We drove this past Aug. About 18 hrs or so, not including stops. Drove all night. Got to see some great scenery, especially going through Tennessee. I will be honest, though... it was not all that easy to do but I think if we do it again, the kids will be a little older, thus changing the atmosphere.

I would rather fly, but good fares, associated with good flight times, are getting harder to find.

Driving costs about $400 in fuel. Flying can cost between $800 and $1200. That $400-$800 difference can mean an extra few days of vacation.

I know!!!! even renting a car was less money than flying when we went in April...airfare 1500.00 cas rental with gas-1250.00

We've driven a couple times. Total drive time of about 10-12 hrs, but we always stopped for the night somewhere in southern GA or northern FL.

But after realizing that we NEVER got back in the car until we were leaving, we decided it made more sense to fly. When you consider the extra hotel nights, the extra food, the gas, etc -- the cost was not that much more to fly. :)

We have only been on the east coast a year now. We hope to get down to WDW next summer. I think we will be driving, I must live right by Greg in TN. Mapquest shows 11 hours. If southwest would add flights out of Knoxville, it would make flying a better option. We do have Allegiant Air and they have cheap rates. Still multiply that by 6 and it is still probably better to drive. Is it an easy drive from East TN to Orlando Greg? I hate switchbacks!

Drove down from CT once. Left around 9am the first day, spent the night in Southern NC. Left first thing in the morning, got to WDW around 1 in the afternoon. Drove 18hrs. straight back. I'd rather fly, spend slightly more money, and get the extra day of vacation.

We usually drive from NY in 16-18 hrs since 2002.

I know haw fast I was averaging to get to reach NY in 17hours (SuperBowl Sunday, very light traffic), I don't want to even think about 16 hours.

We have driven many times from Central NJ down to WDW with our most recent being August 2005. We left around 1:30 AM and with stops made it down there by 7 the next day. We got down there pretty quickly considering we stopped for breakfast at Cracker Barrel and stopped for gas and bathroom breaks a few times. We were supposed to fly down, but my mother got too nervous so we cancelled. So we didn't have a hotel for the first night since we weren't supposed to arrive until the next morning. When we got into Orlando we called the Embassay Suites right across from the entrance by DTD and stayed there for the night.

We went out and bought a Garmin GPS system for this trip (and for my mother for furture use) and it really came in handy when we wanted to find someplace for breakfast, gas stops, and McDonald's for bathroom breaks.

Our Garmin was a great tool to have during our trip. A worthwhile investment.

The only thing we wished the Garmin had is a button while you are driving that you can press to say 'give me an alternate route'. When we arrived in Orlando we were only about 20 minutes from WDW and we hit traffic. We wish we could have just pressed a button that says alternate route.

I forgot to add that we are also AAA members so we went to the AAA office the day before we left to have them print out TripTik for us. I can't remember if we had them print out or because it cost money we just printed it at home.

We've driven from Eastern Maryland before...it's about 14 or so hours for us. It's not a bad drive...of course, the drive home is never fun! The drive takes two days out of our vacation schedule though - and since we often go when the kids have school, we fly to save time. We can - with some advance planning - get decent fares outta Philly or Baltimore. Luckily we are right in between the two and can choose according to the fares. This time we are taking Southwest out of Philly, a straight shot up 95 from MD for us -

We keep saying we are going to try the Auto Train one of these days:rolleyes:...it's a longer ride than just driving though, so it would be more for the experience than for the convenience I'm afraid.

signed me: no fan of South of the Border;)

We actually live in Middle TN, but taking I-24 to Chattanooga puts us right on I-75 toward Atlanta & points south. I suppose it's as easy as any 10-12 hr drive could be--but I have known there to be a lot of construction between Atlanta & the FLA border, which can be very frustrating.

Never driven, but friends who live near us in PA say it's about 18 hours. Since we can only have the kids out of school for a week, we spend the $ and fly, but sometime I'd like to take our time driving down. Unfortunately, my kids last about 3 hours in the car till we start hearing "Are we there yet?"

We've drove a few times - about 10 hrs. from N.O., but after flying a few years ago, we have never driven again! Can't beat making it there in 1 1/2 hrs. (flying time) vs. that 10 hr car ride.

I live in Dallas, and I love the drive not only to WDW but to DL as well. I'm an old road musician, so I really like pointing the car down that ribbon of highway, putting on some good tunes (Chicago, Steely Dan, ELP - y'know, good music!), and watching the miles click by. It's about 1100 miles to WDW, and I do it in 2 days. I usually make it into Pensacola the first day, about 700 miles. That gives me a good night's sleep and then an easy 400 miles, putting me into WDW by early afternoon.

It's almost definitely cheaper to fly these days, though. Once you add up gas, road food and that extra nights of hotel, it's hard to beat Airtran's $99 one way fares from Dallas to Orlando. Even when you factor in the rental car (which is always pretty cheap in Orlando!), it's still cheaper to fly. But every other year or so I take the drive, just because I love that 2 days at a time out on the road. And there's something special about pushing yourself for 2 days on the road, and then finding WDW at the end of the trip. There's an anticipation that doesn't have a chance to build up when you hop on a plane and are there 2 hours later. But then route that gets me into a Disney park is a good route!

It takes about 22 hours to drive from NW Indiana to WDW. My family have done this so many times that we have the schedule down. We leave at midnight and drive through Indiana stopping for breakfast in Kentucky as the sun starts to rise. Then we drive through Kentucky and Tennessee in the morning. Since we do this in October the fall colors are spectacular in the morning.

We stop for the day in Forsythe, Georgia. Some of us drive RV's and others have cars. There is a KOA and a Holiday-Inn at this location so it works for all of us. We get up early and drive the rest of the way making the stop at the Florida Welcome Center for the orange & grapefruit juice!!! We get to WDW around noon.

Just wondering... Is that total time or just driving time? I think for us it was about 18.5 hrs of total driving time, also from NW Indiana.

Driving at night was the best thing we could have done. The kids were sleeping and the roads were pretty much clear. However, in doing so, you miss some great scenery at times.

I'm scared to death to drive overnight--deer and such.

I'm another 8 hours north of the Chicago/NW In area, so we don't drive it anymore. TOO long. Too much money for gas.

Ya, it was about 10 or 15 with traffic, but that was in July, so ot off seasons it would be about 5 minutes
