View Full Version : Do you remember what this attraction was in Epcot?
wishiwasthere 09-25-2007, 10:53 AM My whole family and I are trying to remember this attraction was that we remember seeing in Epcot. I had to be really young when this came out because I remember it vaguely. I'll try to give you the best description I have. For some reason my mother and I remember it in Innoventions. Okay here it is:
You walk in and see a lot of computers. There is plexi-glass between you and the room and some little guy gets reflected on to the glass. I remember being higher than the actual room so it was like we were looking down into it. I don't really remember much else.
I thought at first I was totally making this up but my parents vaguely remember something too. So are we dreaming this or was there really an attraction like this in Epcot?
littlej 09-25-2007, 10:55 AM You're not making it up, I just read an article about that over the summer, either on MousePlanet or AllEarsNet, I can't remember which. Anyone remember where that article was? I never saw the attraction myself. :(
Andrew 09-25-2007, 10:59 AM I believe this was the Astuter Computer Revue, starring Alec Tronic.
littlej 09-25-2007, 11:00 AM Aaaah, you beat me by a nanosecond. Astuter Computer Revue. Though I'm still looking for that article I read....
Found it! It was in this article: http://allearsnet.com/tp/ep/ccore.htm
Scroll down, there's a picture of 'ol Alec. Andrew, you didn't remember that off the top of your head, did you? I'm suitably impressed.
wishiwasthere 09-25-2007, 11:02 AM Thank you!! littlej- If you find the article can you post it? Thanks!
littlej 09-25-2007, 11:11 AM Your wish is my command - I edited my post with the link. :)
wishiwasthere 09-25-2007, 11:19 AM Okay I have done some research and it looks like Astuter Computer Revue closed January 2, 1984. Two years before I was born. So it looks like what I remember was what took it over-Backstage Magic.
Andrew 09-25-2007, 11:42 AM Andrew, you didn't remember that off the top of your head, did you? I'm suitably impressed.
I never saw the ACR in person, but there was a little "history of Disney robots" display in Disneyland's Innoventions a few years ago and it was mentioned there. So more or less off the top of my head, yeah. :D
danyoung 09-25-2007, 02:11 PM This was the version I saw -
"It quickly became the Backstage Magic show and introduced us to Julie and I/O and was a more serious look at the history of computers and explained how they were used at Walt Disney World."
I grew up fascinated with big iron computers, and seeing this room in Epcot was candy to me!
wishiwasthere 09-25-2007, 08:39 PM Now was I/O a dot? I remember a dot.
cheshirecatgirl 09-27-2007, 04:40 AM Hmmm, I think I vaguely remember seeing that too, my first trip to Epcot. I/O sounds very familiar!
danyoung 09-27-2007, 05:28 AM Now was I/O a dot? I remember a dot.
I guess you could call him a dot - a shimmering, star shaped dot.
wishiwasthere 09-27-2007, 09:26 AM Thanks Dan. I wish I could find a video!
danyoung 09-27-2007, 01:32 PM I have a tiny, 2 second clip on and old OLD vhs promo tape for WDW, back when there were only 3 parks. I'd love to see a version of the entire show too!
