View Full Version : Question about the buffet [pay adult price, eat from kids menu?]
tinkrocks 09-24-2007, 11:40 AM I was looking at the buffet's at some of the resturants..and my kids are so not gonna eat some of that..I have a 12 year old and a 10 year old so that means that they are too big for the "childs buffet". My question is, if I PAY the adult buffet price, will disney let them eat the child's buffet with the chicken nuggets and stuff are?
Drince88 09-24-2007, 12:13 PM They don't restrict WHERE anyone serves themselves from. So kids that are paying adult price can eat off the 'kids' buffet, and kids that are paying the kid price can eat off the 'adult' buffet!
In fact, ADULTS paying adult price can select items from the 'kids' area of the buffet, if they so choose!
wishiwasthere 09-24-2007, 02:06 PM I eat off of the kid's buffet. Pizza, chicken fingers, french fries, and mac and cheese. Love it.
tdelaney_98 09-24-2007, 07:44 PM My hubby and 4yo are both HUGE seafood fans, so we went to Cape May. I cannot eat seafood b/c of allergies. I ate a BOATLOAD of Mickey Mac & Cheese. My son ate his weight in clams and mussels. It all evened out for us.
I wish they had a "JR" rate / menu for kids 10-13.

I totally agree with you--I have a rather picky 11 year old and we are planning on using DDP--I wish there was a junior menu at TS restaurants so she could find things she likes with good sized portions!
tdelaney_98 09-25-2007, 02:45 PM I ended up looking up the menus for all of the different restaurants and let him look at the menus to make sure there was something there that he would eat. He wanted to go to Chefs de France SO badly, but I couldn't see him trying anything (he's not big into mac & cheese, so we couldn't even go with the "adult" version of that!). He found something he'll eat and every time I try to get him to try something at home, I tell him it is in preparation for all of the new food he'll have at WDW. I also made sure that our CS selections were FULL of hot dogs and such so that he could "eat" at least once a day!
Oh-- and a clarification. The son I referred to in the Cape May comment was the younger one (4yo) who was obviously on the "kid" prices. This one is the 12 yo, firmly an adult(!!??!) as far as Dis is concerned.
CHEERMOM 10-04-2007, 09:45 AM You may want to reconsider if using the dining plan will be the best choice economically for your family. It sounded very good to us until I did a little research of the menus/prices and discovered that paying adult price for the plan for our 10 and twelve year old who usually order the $3 cs and $5-$10 ts meals would actually cost us an extra $400+ on our 10 day vacation, even if hubby and I loaded up! I agree there definitely needs to be a junior price, most tweens just don't order adult portions and appetizers/desserts which essentially made this a "deal" (I guess now the appetizer isn't even included which makes this even less of a good deal.)
mom22gls 10-04-2007, 04:14 PM With kids, the Dining Plan works better with buffets, and the few places that offer smaller versions of adult meals. For example, you can get a kid sized steak at LeCellier, as a kid's meal. You can defer the decision on whether to add the Dining Plan to your package, until after you have made your AR's. No point in paying for a plan if you are not sure you will get into the places you want. We have gone with the Dining Plan several times, which worked out well, with careful planning. Last year, we went at Thanksgiving, and were not on the plan. For one dinner, we bought one adult steak dinner and split it between our two kids, and that worked out well for them. Sometimes, you can do better for a child, with appetizers, salads, and side dishes, to create a meal to their taste. Next year, I plan not to do the Dining Plan. I don't mind the loss of one course being covered, but eliminating the tip takes a lot of the value out of it.
scanmom 10-11-2007, 11:50 AM We were planning on staying onsite and getting the dining plan, but when I thought about it, we would have spent $160.00/nite x 7 nites for a total of $1120.00 for food. My DS13 is still very picky. Pretty much all he will eat is mac-n-cheese, chicken nuggets/strips, pizza and hot dogs(and he won't eat the bun on those). It would have been a waste of money to get him the plan. And DD17 eats a variety of food, but in very small amounts. she would NEVER eat an appetizer/entree and a dessert. So, not a good value for her either. So, since we were not getting the dining plan, we decided to stay offsite at the Comfort Suites Maingate East. We are staying on points for 7 nites, so it's free. Plus we got free airfare, and free rental car, so all we had to buy was the tickets!!! And we will pay for our food, which I guarantee will be alot less than $1120.00!! Especially since the hotel gives a free full breakfast every day!! We leave on Monday.... I am so excited!!! And with our trip being so cheap, I splurged and booked the Segway WS tour for me and DD17!!!!!:p
