This is a scale-free, calipers-free, blood pressure cuff-free, cholesterol-free thread! (More power to everyone achieving success in those areas, btw)
I have a dress I'd like to wear for the holidays (http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e192/Helen_3894/knitting069.jpg). It doesn't fit me but it will. That is my goal: to wear this dress over the holidays and feel like it looks nice. I do have definite ideas about how I will achieve this.
Do you have a goal not related to numbers?
Andrew 09-17-2007, 12:36 PM Not related to weight numbers:
We are doing the 6.5K ToT "run" next month. 6.5K equals 4.04 miles, and the allotted time is two and a half hours. If I used the entire 2.5 hours, I'd have to make 1.616 miles per hour which is barely even walking. We bought a nearly-new treadmill on Craigslist (retail $800, bought for $150) and I've been doing 4.04 miles in 90 minutes, or about 2.7 MPH.
My goal is to do the actual 6.5K in 90 minutes, and without feeling completely dead at the end. My secondary goal is to use the habits hopefully formed by 90-minute treadmill sessions three or four nights a week to fit into clothes I haven't been able to wear in a long time.
stan4d_steph 09-17-2007, 12:54 PM I want to improve on my time for the marathon next year.
That dress looks very pretty, Helen.

I'm still building myself up on distance/time, so I'm not sure my actual time goal - but the rest of this is VERY similar to my goal. VERY similar! (See you at the finish line, Andrew!)
TrekkieDad 09-18-2007, 06:27 PM OK, so this is numbers, but not weight. My goal is to equal or better the number of miles ridden on a bike in the prior year. So far I'm ahead by 100 miles or so.
stan4d_steph 09-21-2007, 11:09 AM My other running-related goal is to run the whole 13K with my friend who is coming down with me. She's faster than I am, but I was able to keep up with her for most of a recent 15K we did. My goal has been to be able to run 8 miles without stopping to walk, so that I might be able to do something similar for the marathon.
swanie 09-21-2007, 12:24 PM I have a similar goal to Steph...I would love to run the whole Race for the Taste 10K without stopping. I've only done two 5K's in my lifetime, but I think I'm ready to step up to a 10K. I'm not going to be running it at a blazing pace, but if I can keep my legs moving and finish under 1:20:00 I will be an extremely happy camper. :D
rph13 09-23-2007, 06:47 PM To start my walking routine again. I used to walk 4 miles every school day as soon as my youngest got on her bus I was off for my walk rain or shine. Then my friend got sick and I would stick around and chat with her after the bus left and say "I'll walk later" well we all know that doesn't happen. Then my friend got really, really sick and I got depressed and didn't feel like taking care of myself and then my friend died at the beginning of the summer.
But now I am starting to realize that I need to take care of me, even if it is only for 45 minutes a day, I need to get back to walking. I feel better when I do it and so I will be better able to take care of my kids, and will be available for my friend's kids.
So tomorrow is Monday, lets see if I can start tomorrow. One day, one step at a time, right?:)
You've been through a rough time, rph13. Good on you for deciding to take good care of yourself. That sounds like a cliché but I really mean it.
rph13 09-24-2007, 07:42 AM Well, I did it! I walked for 35 minutes today. and I do feel better already. I feel like I got something accomplished and crossed off my "to do" list.
My friends husband was at the bus stop today and he is happy I'm walking again, he says "it makes it more normal".
So tomorrow I will plan to walk again. One day, one step at a time.
Thank you, 3894! This is exactly the push I needed, to get going. I was psyching myself out by thinking "You'll never get back to where you were", so now I don't have to "get back to where I was" I just have to take One day, one step! :)
Drince88 09-24-2007, 08:36 AM WOO HOO!!!
Way to go!!
DatabaseDiva 09-24-2007, 11:00 PM I had to take some time away from running this summer, because of an injury. I'm feeling much better now. Before I got injured I was on track to have my 2,000th Nike+ mile in October. Now my goal is to get it by the end of the year. I'll need to average 5 miles/day for the rest of the year to do it, but I don't think it will be a problem. I guess that is a number related goal.
Last fall when I got the Nike+ and started running much more often, I ended up shrinking into some pants and out of others. It was unique to have that happen over the holidays.
