Although I usually avoid them, out of Albany the best bet is Southwest. They have a nonstop service to Orlando.

You might look at their fares from NYC area also.

Have you looked at fares on kayak.com? A search there will give you a good idea of fares.

Continental flies out of Newark and they have pretty good service.

I guess it depends on where you live (big city or small city). It also depends on what airlines fly in or out of your city. We live in Western New York - which is not a real big city - so we take whatever airline which goes direct to Orlando - we hate changing planes or stopping. We are fortunate to have Southwest Airlines here (even though they herd you like cattle). It takes us a little over 2 hours to get to Orlando - we then hop on the Magical Express and we are there.:D:D

I don't like to fly. I hate when we don't fly jetblue because the flight feels like it is 5 hours long going from Newark to Orlando. When I fly jetblue I turn on the tv, and forget that I am so high up in the air. I also like that I can switch to the channel to see how much longer we have left.

I would suggest Southwest. Since you are on Long Island, you can fly out of Islip. They have about six non-stops daily and about another six where you have to change planes at BWI.

Well, it doesn't help you much, but we almost always fly out of Newark on Continental, and we've never had any problems.

Another option is the AutoTrain.

Get up and leave bright and early in the morning. Drive to Lorton, VA which is the second exit South of the Capital Beltway. Be there by about 2:30. Have your car loaded on the train. You get on the train, which leaves Lorton at 4:00.

Next morning get up in time for the train's arrival in Sanford, FL. This is about five miles from Exit 103 on I-4. The cars are all off by about 9:30. Drive about 45 miles to WDW.

Coming back the timetable is the same; this will save about 850 miles of driving each way and you are at WDW less than 30 hours after leaving home.

Just go to www.amtrak.com and in the search block on the top right of the page type in autotrain for lots of information.

30 hrs to do what you can do in a two hour flight? And here I thought cruel and unusual punishment was unconstitutional! ;)

Seriously, though, neat alternative option Cheshire Figment.

What's the difference than taking him on a plane? If anything that would make him ever louder from the pain in his ears. At least with the train he'll be sleeping. Bring a portable dvd player or a lap top and get some of his favorite shows on DVD. I wouldn't rule it out just because of that.

You are the first person to say "pain in his ears"-everyone said I was crazy and he will "do fine" on a plane...Dh and myself are afraid of that happenning. We were talking about driving again because we booked 2008-Nov30-Dec7 so it gives us time to get over the last drive lol...Dh feels the train takes longer than him driving and he like to be in control...hes one of those...lol:)

seriously, this board is soooo helpful. i am spending a long weekend in NYC before heading to WDW in late January, and the qantas alliance will get me to NYC, and from Orlando back to Melbourne, but not the connection, so I found a nice american travel agent who said I had to catch a flight leaving early, that connects somewhere and didn't get in til lunchtime. but having just read this thread, i have looked up the jetblue website and there is a lovely direct flight that only takes 90 minutes and gets me into orlando before 9am and only costs $110 - fantastic. thank you all!!

Sorry Emmah what did you end up doing? I didn't understand your post and it's just the way I am reading it. You are flying from Australia to NYC. Then from NYC to?

Kathy- All the times I have flown to Orlando I have never really had a baby scream at the top of their lungs. Maybe once or twice, but if it happens it happens. My little cousin is 19 months and I can see her screaming at the top of her lungs because she screams over everything which isn't why we aren't asking her parents if she can come with us to WDW until she gets much older.

yep, it would be confusing to most people i think, but i am hitting as many pleasure spots as possible; melb to NYC, then to WDW, then to DLR (LA) and home again... :D

Ok I am understanding you now. Well your wrote in your first post that it will only take you 90 minutes to get from NYC to Orlando. Sorry but that is wishful thinking! Going down it usually takes about 3 hours from the time you leave the terminal until you arrive at the Orlando terminal. Jet Blue is great though because you get a TV with a whole bunch of channels and a few weeks before your flight you can look up the schedule of shows during your flight on their website. There is also XM radio.

If Newark Airport is not too far, I just got tickets to Orlando from Continental for a total of $129.00 apiece round trip. Disney picks you up at the Airport, and if you can take the train from home to Newark ya can't beat it. 4 days to go:D
