tdelaney, I, too, am interested in this new exhibit. I have read that it will open on September 26 (don't hold me to that date...I just read about the opening date on another site). It will be at the American Adventure, not at the Hall of Presidents.

That's one of the things I really like about WDW....there is so much more to do and see there than just rides.

How often do they change the exhibits? I'm hoping to see it at the end of January.

Oops! You're right--it's at the American Adventure, isn't it? Well, wouldn't I have been surprised to go to the HoP and ask about it. Duh! Thanks, Brad!

Thanks and SWEET! I'm going in Oct, so this is DEFINITELY on the list. I don't see WDW as just theme parks. It really is museum-like in many areas and we try to see as much of that as possible.

For example, Mexico's pavillion always has terrific exhibits right inside the doors. People fly by it to get to the ride, shopping, or eats, and don't bother to look at the beautiful artwork/ethnic exhibits.

Even FW's exhibits are better than most science museums I've been to! [/soapbox]

they do seem to hide the museums don't they. Norway's in the stave church, Morocco's behind some unmarked, inconspicuous doors.

oh, so i've been putting two and two together. there was a thread on this a bit back and i think whoever started it mentioned abraham lincoln's hat was supposed to be on display so i wondered if it was the same one the smithsonian has and poked around and found that the exhibition that was on display at american adventure (disney-tischman collection is it?) is actually a portion of a smaller collection that the smithsonian has.

so my big duh moment. the national museum of american history is closed until summer 2008, so it's quite possible that some of whatever they had on display there in terms of presidential artifacts could be going to disney for a bit.

i'm looking at some pics i took back in 2004 from the collection.. george washington's uniform, portraits of george & martha by john trumbull, clinton's proposed budget from 2001, clinton's sax (and assorted artifacts from hobbies of other presidents), casts of lincoln's face and hands, truman's skeleton key to the white house, toys that belonged to the first kids, the dewey defeats truman headline, secret service standard issue equipment. they also had an interactive exhibit with a podium with the presidential seal that you could have a backdrop of a crowd as you recreate a famous presidential speech. and plenty more of course. i think there's a lot of clothes from nancy reagan. i think i recall some story about how she was at some function in town and didn't have shoes, so the museum lent her a pair of shoes she had donated.

Wow, wouldn't that be a boon? I am eager to see what's in there!! This exhibit has now moved to the front of the "to do" line with Soarin!

tdelaney, Oh My Gosh, two minds that think alike! I just love the exhibits and the wonderful details in the parks. Although I love all the attractions, I definitely take time to "smell the roses". I guess that's why I never feel like I have enough time at WDW.

Brad, I was actually the one who started that thread. I'm BIG into museums (as it seems you probably are, too). Since the time I posted that thread I did a little "digging" and found some of the exhibits that will be housed in the American Adventure. It appears that most of what you stated above was not mentioned. However, from what I've read, the collection will constantly be changing. And, by the way, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Smithsonian!!!

You seem to be very "in the know". If you find anything else out about this exhibit, please let us know.

I believe it is not going to be installed and "live" until October. I remember when i first read about it that I was disappointed it wouldn't be up and ready by September, during my trip.

A co-worker of mine just returned from WDW and I had asked him to try to find out when the National Treasures Exhibit would open. He told me that he was told it would not open earlier than September 28, and even that could be subject to change.
