View Full Version : Opinions needed [Restaurants]
thrashers09 08-26-2007, 12:05 PM I need everyone's HONEST opinion's on: KONA, CALIFORNIA GRILL, CRT, LE CELLIER, BOMA and THE BROWN DERBY.
The good, the bad and the ugly even. Are they worth it, what is the best to get at each place, service etc. Whatever I can get I will take.
Thanks:D
stan4d_steph 08-26-2007, 12:37 PM Have you done a search of this forum? You should also check out the MousePlanet guide pages for those locations to read user-submitted reviews. Here's a link to the WDW guide (http://www.mouseplanet.com/guide.php?pg=B00000).
I ate at California Grill. It was good and the view was nice. However, I don't think I would eat there again, as I didn't feel the experience equaled the price I paid. I might just go up for drinks or dessert.
I love Boma. I eat there every trip.
thrashers09 08-26-2007, 12:48 PM Thanks I will look at that. I just wanted to get opinions from here, on a one on one basis.
Any help is still appreciated. I also have booked the Deluxe Dining Plan.
crrees 08-26-2007, 12:49 PM Hi there thrasher, id be happy to oblige
Kona Cafe - amazing food, i was SOOO happy with this place. I think its better then Kona, if only it had the same view. The restaurant is quiet and the food is impeccable. We had a small problem there once but it was an isolated incident and it will not keep us from returning there.
CG - i have eaten here over 30 times at least, its my parents, my friends parents, and my favorite place. While expensive, the view is great and the alcohol hits you abit quicker since you are so high up. The food is unique which is A++, the food is similar to flyish fish but slightly better
CRT and Le Cellier are both okay, their expertise is not food, its entertainment. Le Cellier steaks are good and I think they get the same cuts as yachtsman. CRT I could live without but if i have a child in the near future I would take them there around the age of 5
Boma - The food is ecclectic, you have to really enjoy food with lots of spice in it. I dunno, i like the breakfast but dinner is not all its cracked up to be. It seems when i first went there it was really good, then the buffets started losing their zing and now both Boma and Cape may (once my favorite places to go because of cost and quality) are downhill and im very upset about it.
thrashers09 08-26-2007, 12:55 PM Thanks crrees. Word of mouth is great in my opinion. Now, I know everyone has their own, but I still like to get an idea of what other people have to say. I have never been to any of those, so any opinion is great!!!!
jengold29 08-26-2007, 01:54 PM OK. You asked. I haven't been to Kona Cafe ever or to CRT in at least 5 years so I won't give opinions on them.
California Grill- Loved it. Loved the view, try to schedule dinner around Wishes if you can. Best food item-- kids dessert- sushi made from rice crispie treats.
Le Cellier-- An in park favorite of my family. All the steaks are great, as are the pretzel breadsticks and the tomato appetizer.
Brown Derby-- Another in park favorite, but we've only had lunch there. Try the Cobb Salad- I think they invented it here.
Boma-- Didn't like it at all, Jiko was so much better.
YMMV of course.
GusMan 08-26-2007, 02:45 PM LE CELLIER - We ate their for the first time recently and all I have to say is - BEST DINNER EVER! The food was excellent, the service was great, and we did not feel rushed at all. However, because of its price, I do not think we would have dined there if we were not on a dining plan.
BOMA - We really like its breakfast, and found its dinner to be interesting and great for experimentation. While we do find ourselves going back for breakfast in particular, if were paying out of pocket, I think we would have thought it was rather expensive as well, mainly since our kids did not eat all that much.
I am taking into consideration that you will be on a dining plan, so my comments regarding price does not really apply. But I mentioned it for those who might not be on a DP or wanted to pay out of pocket.

Kona Cafe - excellent - have the Macadamia Crusted Mahi Mahi - it is to die for!!!
California Grill - I've heard only good things but haven't been there yet.
CRT - Exceptional service, amazing atmosphere, ok food.
Le Cellier - We had very poor service and the food was not good either. I had the salmon, which people rave about, it had absolutely no flavor at all, I was very disappointed, if the service hadn't been so horrible I'd try it again, but I will probably give it another try sometime in the future. I am not a meat eater, so I won't die if I don't have a Le Cellier Steak in WDW.
Boma - another favorite of ours. The food is very good and you can't go wrong with all-you-care-to-eat!!! The atmosphere is very nice, especially for a buffet. You can walk right outside and view the animals on the Savanna too. Really cool. We have to have both breakfast and dinner here on each trip. Service has always been good.
The Hollywood Brown Derby - BEST EVER!!! The service was absolutely outstanding here, and the food was amazing as well. I have to go back again, it was the best meal we've had in WDW so far followed very closely by Kona Cafe.
