View Full Version : Any favorites at Sci Fi Diner?
kluvsdisney 08-25-2007, 09:34 PM Hello! One of the TS my DH and I will be doing is at the Sci Fi Diner. Now I know many don't like this place, but it is one that DH has always wanted to try and we've never gotten there on past trips. So...any favs or things to stay away from there? And most importantly, are the onion rings skinny or fat??? Thanx!
Mickeygirlforever 08-25-2007, 09:38 PM Our family LOVED this place. It was a highlight of our trip. My mom enjoyed her sandwhich (I think it was a rueben) and we all enjoyed our burgers. I don't remember what the onion rings looked like, sorry, but we loved the shakes and sundaes!
anniedg 08-25-2007, 10:19 PM We LOVE Sci-Fi too, it's a must-do for us every trip.
I'm a vegetarian and so don't know if this will appeal to you, but they have a tofu dish with mango that I just love.
brazen wench 08-26-2007, 05:54 AM I really liked the Reuben on my first visit, so it's all I've ever ordered since then. The BLT Soup is very good, too.
efoxx 08-26-2007, 06:34 AM Don't know about the onion rings, but they used to have cocoa cola ribs where they marinate baby back ribs in coke. but alas now they have just generic ribs, not as good.
Finz729 08-26-2007, 06:39 AM We had lunch there and I thought I'd be healthy (what was I thinking???) and order some form of grilled chicken sandwich. It was dry as sawdust. That said, I still really loved the place. It's such a fun atmosphere!
Next time I'll just try those ribs someone mentioned . . . or a burger and onion rings . . . can't go wrong there when you're sitting in a convertible!
Also, the bookstore/coffee shop is connected to the restaurant and they've got great cookies and coffee for dessert!!!
disnut8 08-26-2007, 09:05 AM We love Sci-Fi and always try to go there for lunch about once a year. We'd go more frequently but we remember the film clips so we pace out our trips beased on when my husband can't remember them anymore!
Burgers, burgers, burgers. You can add grilled onions, mushrooms, bacon, Swiss cheese and cheddar cheese. Any combination any amount for the same price. Sci Fi is one place where I'll even finish the fries.
They have different flavors of Sprite and the refills are free so enjoy. My husband nursed his blueberry Sprite since he thought he'd have to pay for a refill. Nope, so he downed about three of them.
For us, Sci Fi for a late lunch is perfect.
goalman43 08-26-2007, 09:10 AM the food was...ok. However, the atmosphere really makes up for it. I'd go again anytime.
Mickeygirlforever 08-26-2007, 08:34 PM Ok, we're pretty sure the onion rings are fat. Have so much fun there! It was a BLAST! Make sure you wait for a car. The "half" cars that are just tables and the flying saucer tables aren't as much fun. The "real" cars are worth the little wait.
ericles 08-27-2007, 05:54 AM We LOVE Sci-Fi for lunch...you have got to try the BLT soup. It's really, really good.
we'll second the recommendation of Onion Rings, too.
kluvsdisney 08-27-2007, 08:18 PM Thanx for all the input! We are excited to go to the Sci-Fi for the first time. We've always wanted to on past trips, even though it does seem to get a lot of lack-luster reviews on different sites. We think it sounds like a blast with the bad sci-fi clips. I will def try the BLT soup and we'll see about the onion rings. DH LOVES onion rings, but he likes them skinny, not fat.... I'm anxious to check them out! I'm happy to hear from so many of you who love the restaurant. We leave in a month and three days...WOO HOO!!!!!!!!
MaraMouse 08-27-2007, 10:07 PM We went during dinner time and there weren't any drive-in'y things on the menu, but our server let us order burgers and fries still, and it was good, nothing fantabulous, but the atmosphere makes up for it. Also, our server looked like one of the guys from the clips and he was like "Hey look it's my big scene!" heheh
wishiwasthere 08-28-2007, 03:47 PM I have done both lunch and dinner and have found lunch to be better. The shrimp pasta is good, but the last time I had it (August '06) it was alright. I have had the ribs, burger, onion rings, chili, and the chicken ceasar salad and thought they were all good. I think I do remember asking for extra dressing with my chicken ceaser salad.
steamboatpookster 08-28-2007, 04:23 PM Great atmosphere...terrible food. I expected "drive-in" food and instead was surprised to find ribs and rubens. WAY over-priced as well. The rings were good...that's about all I can say that was positive about our meal.
