We will be making some changes to the forum structure on MousePad, probably over the weekend, so I wanted to give everyone a little bit of warning before we just "flipped the switch."
We know that questions related to trip planning can get lost amid the general chatter of the resort forums, so we're creating sections devoted just to trip planning topics. We think this is going to make it easier for readers to ask for help, and to help other members.
The biggest change is going to be made within the Walt Disney World section, because we know that planning a trip to Florida is usually a more complicated process. We reserve the right to further split or merge the sub forums if we don't think they are doing what we expected them to do.
Here is the structure we will be creating. The bold items are the high-level categories, like the current Parks and Resorts Discussions header.
Disneyland Resort Discussions
News and Current Events
Trip Planning
Walt Disney World Resort Discussons
News and Current Events
Touring the Parks (Parks)
Where to Stay (Hotels)
Getting There/Getting Around (Transportation)
Good Eats (Dining)
Everything Else in the World (Downtown Disney, water parks, etc)
Other Park & Resort Discussions
Disney Vacation Club
Disney Cruise Line
Disneyland Resort Paris
Disney Resorts in Asia
Other Parks & Resorts (Universal, Sea World, Knott's, etc)
Everything else - entertainment, the lounge, etc - will remain the same.
We are not going to go through the current DLR / WDW resort-level forums and move current threads to their new topic forum. We *are* going to close the current resort-level forums to new threads - you'll be able to reply to a thread that was already in that forum, but you'll have to start new threads in the proper new forum.
We know it's going to be a bit of a transition and learning curve for people - including us - and this DOES mean that the moderators are going to be more actively moving threads if they feel that they have been posted in the wrong area. It also means that members will need to be a little more specific in their thread topics. Instead of starting one "Help me plan my WDW vacation!" thread, you might need to start two threads - one in the dining section to ask for advice on ADRs, another in the hotels section to ask which hotels have the best room service. This may be a pain at first, but you're likely to get better responses from the people who are experts in one area or another, and wouldn't otherwise wade through the more generic posts to find your question.
I'm happy to answer any questions members have about this change. And again, this is a test run for us. If it doesn't work out, we may merge it all back into the current structure in 6 months.
