View Full Version : I know, weird question- shuttle to Knotts toncasmo 08-22-2007, 10:48 AM we're staying at PPH in september with no car and was wondering if there's a shuttle or something to knotts berry farm- we just want to go for chicken dinner! really!! annieb727 08-22-2007, 12:13 PM a cab would probably be $15-20 each way. but you can also take a city bus. i stayed one night near knott's and it was a really easy bus ride - takes longer than a cab, but it's REALLY cheap! Mostly Anonymous 08-22-2007, 12:51 PM we're staying at PPH in september with no car and was wondering if there's a shuttle or something to knotts berry farm- we just want to go for chicken dinner! really!! I've often wondered if a well-publicized shuttle between Disney & Knotts would actually result in increased revenue for Disney. It could add extra incentive for people to stay at the resort longer, and those hotel nights represent a lot of revenue. It might also help California Adventure by encouraging tourists to stay in the Anaheim area longer, instead of just popping down for one day to see Disneyland. It seems to me that Knotts doesn't really compete directly with Disney, instead they offer very different entertainment opportunities. They have the big, intense thrill rides that Disney stays away from. They also have a waterpark, and Disney doesn't. I've known a lot of visitors who added on a day at Knotts because their oldest child really wanted some "real" rollercoasters. A shuttle would probably benefit both Knotts and Disney, but somehow I can't see them deciding to cooperate on something like this! Theme parks get very competitive, even though there is little evidence that they have much power to steal market share from one another. mommyof4 08-22-2007, 01:08 PM http://graylineanaheim.com/sightseeing_tours.cfm Here is a link to grey lines go down to the knotts berry farm section , they do a tour and it says that the shuttle is free , you do pay for the tour , not sure how much more it is then the regular tickets Darkbeer 08-22-2007, 02:19 PM You pay $43.95 per adult thru Gray Line (the full price of the park aka Free Shuttle)), but you can find discounts easily that makes the ticket $30 or less per adult from other sources, so you are paying about $15 for the shuttle per adults. (Full price for kids 3 thru 11 is $18.95). The LA Metro Route 460 is an express bus with limited stops that goes from Disneyland to Knott's in about 20 minutes at $1.25 per adult one way, runs about every 30 minutes. The bus stop is located on Harbor Blvd next to the Tram Loading area and the Taxi Stand, so you would have to walk to the main entrance and then past both security checks to the bus stop. But I prefer this choice, as you can pick when you leave and when you return, and not fixed to a certain pick up time. This way you can have dinner in the area (Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner or other choices including the dinner shows) and come back at your convenience. Disney Donna 08-22-2007, 02:26 PM Sounds like we have some experts out there . . . what's Knotts like these days? It's been decades since I've been there. Darkbeer 08-22-2007, 02:34 PM Sounds like we have some experts out there . . . what's Knotts like these days? It's been decades since I've been there. While more thrill rides have been added, a lot of the old fashioned Knott's is still there. The historic Stagecoaches are still offered daily (except during Haunt when the paths the Stagecoaches use are blocked due to mazes). So is the Log Ride (currently getting repaired and should reopen in time for Haunt), the Mine Train Ride, the Steam Locomotives and Ghost Town. Shows like the Calico Saloon Show and the Wild West Stunt Show are performed daily. Hand craft artisans such as glass blowers, blacksmiths and other still create works while you watch. Also Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner Restaurant is still making its famous meals, without changes to its recipes. Independence Hall and the Church of the Reflections are just across the street. For the price, it is a great time and a good deal. adriennek 08-22-2007, 04:02 PM Sounds like we have some experts out there . . . what's Knotts like these days? It's been decades since I've been there. It's dirty and crowded and blech. (I have a bad attitude about Knott's - can you tell?) I don't mind going for chicken dinner (yum!) but I can't stand going inside. Adrienne annieb727 08-22-2007, 04:08 PM You really have to go knowing it's nothing like disney. It's not as clean, not as friendly. But the rides are GREAT! We love it...we're going for a day. We know it's not like disney, but I love the roller coasters! And during the week mid-september - sometimes you don't even have to get off to ride again! Baloo 08-22-2007, 08:16 PM didn't they just add a new free shuttle service from the anaheim resort to Knott's? Darkbeer 08-22-2007, 08:30 PM didn't they just add a new free shuttle service from the anaheim resort to Knott's? Yes, Post #4 has a link to the "Free" shuttle service, which requires a full priced ticket purchase. As I mentioned earlier, you can find ticket at least $10 less with ease (Heck, just check Knott's Web site.... http://www.knotts.com/hot/index.asp ) So IMHO, you can save money and use the LA Metro Bus, and also be able to schedule your start and return times at your convenience as compared to Grey Line's fixed schedule. pisces 08-23-2007, 03:54 PM You pay $43.95 per adult thru Gray Line (the full price of the park aka Free Shuttle)), but you can find discounts easily that makes the ticket $30 or less per adult from other sources, so you are paying about $15 for the shuttle per adults. The Knotts stop is on the corner of Harbor and La Palma, and you've got to cross at least two lights, and then it's a bit of a hike up to the Knotts gate. For the price, it is a great time and a good deal. I would agree that for the price it is a good deal, and I still enjoy the occasional day trip, but it will be considerably different than what you remember from ten years ago. Right when you enter, you are greeted by large steel struts holding up one of the several extreme coasters. The park has lost a lot of its charm, and I believe it's due to the Cedar Fair takeover and pattern of plopping in big coasters wherever they fit, rather than thinking of spacial and ascetic issues. They did a good job with Ghost Rider, but Silver Bullet is just plopped in the middle of the park. Darkbeer 08-23-2007, 06:12 PM But that bus doesn't stop right at Knotts main gate, or even at the shops. The Knotts stop is on the corner of Harbor and La Palma, and you've got to cross at least two lights, and then it's a bit of a hike up to the Knotts gate. And where is the Gray Line stop? Next to the Knott's Resort Hotel, almost the same walk as from the corner of BEACH and La Palma, so the walk is pretty much the same distance... I just mapped the distance, The Metro stop to the turnstiles is just at 1/4 of a mile. http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=1255768 And then from the Tour Bus Stop that is located next to the Knott's Hotel (which of course Knott's placed to have folks walk thru the Marketplace shops to and from the bus, similar to what Disney and Universal does to get folks to walk by their shops). http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=1255773 Actually a bit longer (.26 of a mile vs .24 of a mile for the LA Metro), but basically the same distance. For me, a choice of pick-ups or one forced time. Easy decision for me, especially if the Metro is a lot cheaper and quicker (compared to being picked up at your hotel with Gray Line, then taken to the Anaheim transfer station where folks switch buses to multiple locations, and then off to Knott's, and repeat the process on the way back). It can take around 1 hour from being picked up from your hotel until being dropped off at Knott's, while the LA Metro takes 20 minutes from the DLR Tram Loading area to Beach and La Palma. Pat-n-Eil 08-24-2007, 09:05 AM ... They did a good job with Ghost Rider, but Silver Bullet is just plopped in the middle of the park. The Ghost Rider is my favorite wooden coaster. I would go back there for a chicken dinner and a ride on that coaster alone. annieb727 08-24-2007, 10:16 AM The Ghost Rider is my favorite wooden coaster. I would go back there for a chicken dinner and a ride on that coaster alone. I agree!! That ride is INCREDIBLE! Though the only time I rode it, I had a headache and could only handle riding it once...Last time I went, it was down. I am hoping it's up this time, and I want to ride it FIRST thing if I don't have a headache - a COUPLE of times. ETA: I just found out that Ghost Rider is scheduled to be closed the day we were planning to go...so now I'm trying to re-arrange my plans! Hopefully it will work! Jim Dear and Darling 08-24-2007, 10:22 AM I LOVE Knotts Berry Farm. Love the rides, love the chicken, love it all. I always go for a half day when I'm down at Disney. I think it's worth the moolah. You just can't go into it thinking it's Disneyland, 'cause it's not. mommyof4 09-06-2007, 02:13 PM For the metro to Knotts where do you catch it ?( what is it by ) and how long do they run( the time)? Thank in advance for any info The bus stop (and interesting to note, the same exact stop both for departure and arriving at the park) is basically just past the Lion King Tram loading area on Harbor Blvd. Here is a marked path from the Main Entrance Plaza. http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=1296230 The bus stop services both many OCTA buses and the one Metro bus, so just read the side of the bus, you want a Metro. Just ask the bus driver while boarding if this bus is going to Knott's, or is it the one that ends at Disneyland. It runs most of the day usually every 25 minutes, here is a link to the current schedule. http://www.mta.net/images/460.pdf mommyof4 09-06-2007, 02:39 PM The bus stop (and interesting to note, the same exact stop both for departure and arriving at the park) is basically just past the Lion King Tram loading area on Harbor Blvd. Here is a marked path from the Main Entrance Plaza. http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=1296230 The bus stop services both many OCTA buses and the one Metro bus, so just read the side of the bus, you want a Metro. We didn't know what ride we were going on when we went on it...everything else seemed closed at the moment...I don't know if they stagger the opening of rides so people actually do the lame ones? But MAN, that was really DUMB. |
