Using your scenario as an example - this is the reason why people need to book their ADR's as soon as possible after they hit the 180 day mark. Character meals are very popular and they tend to be some of the first to fill up, with the more popular dining times being the first to sell out.

Granted, you can get lucky at times, but with the DDP being popular and even more so when free dining is offered, it makes planning even more necessary.
