Sea Notes
September 2007
1. STEP INTO THE DEEP SEA REALM
It's the largest, most mysterious habitat on Earth. In a matter of
weeks, you'll be able to take command of a deep sea exploration team
when we launch "Mission to the Deep: Exploring the Ocean with the
Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute."
Starting September 15, "Mission to the Deep" will take you on an
amazing adventure that combines high-definition video of incredible
deep sea animals with the hands-on experience of using underwater
robots and other high-tech tools to explore the waters that encompass
nearly 98 percent of all living space on our planet.
Adventure aside, it's a unique opportunity to learn about the
cutting-edge research conducted each day at the Monterey Bay Aquarium
Research Institute--deep-sea science that's changing what we know about
the ocean, and what's needed to protect ocean life.
It's like nothing you've seen before, and you can only experience it
when you visit. http://www.mbayaq.org/efc/efc_mbh/dsc.asp?bhcp=1

2. CATCH THE PENGUINS--QUICKLY
Listen in as resident penguinologist Christina Slager shares the
inside scoop about these cool birds in an archived webcast. Then,
come see them in person before we temporarily close our penguin exhibit
on September 4 for Splash Zone renovations.

3. FIESTA DEL MAR CELEBRATION
Join us on Sunday, September 9 as Mexican wrestler El Hijo del Santo
takes center stage at Fiesta del Mar! We'll present him with our
"Hero of the Environment" award for his dedication to ocean
conservation, and plan a day filled with family activities. Kids 12
and under are admitted free!

4. STAY A LITTLE LONGER
You can still commune with your favorite critters until 8 p.m. on
Saturday and Sunday nights through Labor Day--that's two extra hours
to check out Wild About Otters and all your favorite exhibits. Enjoy
live jazz or make a dinner reservation in the Portola Cafe.
