The last time I was at WDW meal plan snacks were limited to drinks, a piece of fruit, popcorn, or an ice cream bar, and a lot of people were confused. Now I hear that pretty much anything under $4 is fair game. Is this correct? I am really hoping to use my snack credits for things like eclairs in France. Any advice on good snacks?

You do get a lot more of a selection for snacks. There are lots of selections out there that would cost $4.00, but every location has different rules on what will count as a snack. MK, dolewhip and fudge at Trading Post. Epcot, Norway any of their desserts also open-faced sandwiches. I am not sure what France offers. At MGM over on backstreets somewhere you can get those sugar-coated almonds. The snacks were so much fun.

Last November, France would not let me use a snack credit for Chocolate Mousse. It was under $4. Has anyone successfully used a credit for this?

I did successfully use a credit in Norway at the bakery. :) Happy snacking!

So seriously, is this true? Our family is considering adding the meal plan to our package.. this information, if true, would make it much more interesting to get!!

Personally, I would not make the decision to add dining based on the snack options. The snacks are the most flexible of the plan, and if the meal part isn't right for you, it's not going to be 'right' because of the snacks. Also, if you're going in 2008, make sure you read up on the new rules before you make the decision.

We got Mickey Rice Krispies treats, fruit and the rice/bean side dish (from the MGM Commisary) as snacks. Usually, sides or desserts that could be counted as snacks were marked on the menu. I would agree that you shouldn't pick the DDP based on the snacks. Where we made it worth our while was on the table service meals.

I got Dole Whips as snacks. We used a snack credit to get a box of 8 doughnuts at POP for breakfast. At the end of the trip we had like 6 snack credits left so we split a Twinkie Tirramasu and then bought a bunch of candy to bring home. I love those cherry sour balls!

My favorite use of a snack credit was at Goofy's in DTD. We did the dip your own stuff. I got a Mickey Rice Krispie treat dipped in chocolate, peanuts, and then drizzled with caramel. Mmmmm...... I couldn't finish it over the course of three days it was so sweet and so big, but awesome! My sister dipped pretzel sticks, but I don't remember in what, you could also do marshmallows! It was awesome but took a while for them to do since they were busy!

So, moral of the story, yes, pretty much everything under $4 is a snack. There is a symbol next to the stuff on the menus which makes it easy. The CM's were nice about it when we asked. Of course, we had to have a mickey bar too! ;)

For obvious reasons the decision to get the meal plan is not based alone on snacks.. :o) The meals as is fit what we need and allow us to pay for food up front per say instead of having to deal with saving that portion of money when we go on our trip... I have read up on the new rules when the rates were released.. not too much change but a couple of more choices.

Thanks for your thoughts! :o)

A lot of people (http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/showthread.php?t=75107) really didn't like the change of removing the appetizer and tip from the plan in 2008.

It's important to note that during the Food & Wine Festival every fall, many of the food items are available as snack choices. I saved all of mine up, and basically ate dinner a snack at a time. Worked great for me!

I just found this link. It has a list of snacks as of the end of June. I didn't see food from La Boulangerie Patisserie on the list.:crying:

Stop by the Main Street Bakery in MK on your way out of the park. They'll pack fresh baked goods to go (turnovers, muffins, yummy glazed cinnamon rolls, etc.) for a snack credit each, which we kept in our room for a quick breakfast the next morning.

It seems every location makes it's own determination on what a snack credit can be used for, but they are all clearly marked with a DDP symbol on the menu boards.

Apparently... :) At first I didnt understand the reason for everyone getting so upset as I thought I had read about where the appetizer was still included but then realised that this was only with the new Deluxe Dining Plan..We dont normally get three appetizers with dinner anyway so its not so much of a deal for our family.

Also, if you're going in 2008, make sure you read up on the new rules before you make the decision.

This week the most recent UK package brochures came out - I got them to further convince myself that going separate will be cheaper - (it is). Anyhow; the UK official Disney site still will not let you book with the Dining Plan and is refreshing the dining plan page, so no info. But two of the package brochures now have the dining plan in and the small print still describes it as having the appetiser included, makes no mention of a tip. Their dates go up until December 2008... It's £22 per adult and £6 per child which I think is inflated when converted from the $ and the US site dining plan rate.

Is there a portion of the US site that tells you the breakdown price of the dining pkg?

Yes I'm sure there is - with all the different dining plan options on it.

pixidust mentioned the Dining Plan Symbol being on the menus. Could someone tell me exactly what the symbol looks like?

It's a little DP beside the menu item. Can't miss it.

Well, just coming from the parks, let me go ahead and add some clarification / confusion to the mix: :)
- Not everything under $4 can be used as a snack.
- Not everything that can be used as a snack is marked with the DDP logo. This is especially the case in food courts.
- Not all cast members / eateries are consistant when it comes to what is a snack and what is not compared to other eateries, food courts, etc.

What we ended up doing is the good old standby: when in doubt ask before ordering. Starting an order with the phrase "We are on the dining plan..." or "I would like to use snack credits for..." really helped speed things up and also allowed the CM taking your order to advise what may be included or not.

Ill have more info in an upcoming trip report after I get back home on Tuesday.

Yep, totally agree with Gusman in that "when in doubt, ask" thing. Food court items are especially not marked.

Nope, couldn't use a snack credit in France for anything other than drinks-nor in China for icecream. Could in Norway and Japan. So, absolutely ask if you have a question.

And, yes, Goofy's Candy company is a great way to use up snack credits. Yummm...dipped strawberries and pretzels....

Another good use is a box of donuts(as mentioned above) and a 1/2 gal. of milk at any of the resort gift shops. Ta-da-breakfast for a couple of days for my boys.

Several smaller food stops-coffee carts in Italy and France-the donut place at Blizzard Beach-all had signs that said "we are not equipped for room charging or dining plan purchases" or something similar.

If anyone decides to do what I did and use up your credits during the Food & Wine Festival, you'll be happy to know that snack items that are covered on the plan are clearly marked on all of the food booths in Epcot. You can really dine well for free if you plan it right!
