Hey fellow cruisers....
I am thisclose to 100% convincing my fiance (whom some of you know) that DCL is a great option for a trip in 2009. He's terribly worried that we will be inundated with characters (even though I've told him otherwise) and there isn't enough evening activities (we usually take RCCL, which has a casino).

He's watched the DVD, read the books, seen the pics and looked at some navigators, but I could really use some help to really drive it home.

If you could each put down one reason why DCL far surpasses all other lines, I would be so grateful -- if it comes from you and not from me, he might be more inclined to listen (and if you see him at MA, feel free to tell him in person). :fez:

Niwel:
I won't see him at MA as I won't be there, so let me start.

Characters do not inundate you, and other then seeing them in the shows you must seek them out. while it is true there is no casino on board, the night clubs are great fun, and just as adult as any other cruise ship (OK not as adult as the swingers cruise;)). the adult areas on the ship range from quiet and relaxing to totally crazy. the rooms are considerably bigger then on the average cruise ship and invite you to stay in and have fun. especially if you spring for a room with a private balcony. the food is great and in no way dumbed or toned down. Disney's private island caters to adults in their own private area, as well as a host of fun activities elsewhere. Disney is the industry standard, and is rapidly becoming THE cruise line to go on for a reason. that is it has something for everyone with being pushy on anyone. you will find just as many kids on their ships as on any other cruise line so other then losing the casino (and who has to give even more money to them anyway) there is nothing to lose.

Niwel's finace', the characters really aren't around a whole lot. I promise.

We did our first DCL cruise, which was the 1st cruise for each of us, then did a RCL cruise and said to one another afterwards, are we really that spoiled or was DCL really that much better? We settled on the latter.

Honestly, give it a chance. There are plenty of places to go on the ship and be away from families and kids if you so desire and the theming is great.

But AVP hits it on the head. Castaway Cay. No other cruise line has anything like it. And fireworks at sea. No one else does that either.

It won't kill you, you might just like it, and it'll make Niwel happy. Now there's your reason.

My mom who is truly a little annoyed by all things Disney, loved the Disney Wonder said it was one of the most beautiful well kept ships she had ever been on. She never felt inundated with characters and felt you almost had to look for the disneyesque touches. And we all loved Castaway Cay.

You won't notice the lack of casino, there are so many other things to do and see!!

Make Niwel the happiest woman around, join her for the cruise!!!

To all who have posted on this thread started by my oh so wonderful fiancee..

1) The mysterious Mr. Niwel has surfaced and will be posting regularly from this point forward, you can all see me at MA should you choose (look for the goofy guy with the equally goofy girl at his side with what she thinks is an excuse for a wedding veil, complete with ears)

2) I'll take the cruise if anything to be able to see Castaway Cay...Niwel..if this doesn't satisfy you then I don't know what will. HA!

3) I've managed to convince Niwel that instead of doing Disney in the Caribbean, we will be doing a transatlantic..this way we both get something that we want.

This is my first post, everyone should be very afraid....

Ummm... you mean the one that leaves SATURDAY? 'cuz you know that trans-Atlantic thing was this year only, right? (Although the newspaper in Barcelona seems to think the ship is returning in 2009...)

We're keeping our fingers crossed they'll have something in 2009 (repositioning or whatnot).

Boy you guys should all become professional ad men and women. MrNiwel just suggested we take a trip in 2008 instead of 2009. :)
