View Full Version : Baby carriers and rides
losaitkens 07-27-2007, 11:16 AM We are planning a trip in Sept. and our new baby will be 3 months old. She likes being held in her snugli carrier and falls asleep there frequently. Will I have to take her out of this carrier to ride certain attractions?
We took my now 2 year old when she was 5 months and I seem to remember being asked to take her out of the snugli but don't think it was consistently applied and wondered what the official policy was as well as what others experiences have been.
Thanks!

That's pretty much the official application of the official policy. ;)
There are rides they'll let you usually keep the baby in the carrier - such as Small World and Pirates. There are rides they absolutely will NOT allow her to stay in - like Roger Rabbit.
I would say that if they allow lap seating, they'd allow the carrier, but the policy is going to be different depending on CMs.
Yesterday we went on a ride that shall remain nameless. In the past, they've told me that I was NOT allowed to have my then 2-y/o on my lap during the ride.
Yesterday the now 3-y/o was getting fussy getting onto the ride. The CM had already been super helpful up to this point, said "Would he like to sit on your lap?" They released the lap restraint, let me put him on my lap, replaced the lap restraint, and I had one very happy 3-y/o who was safe on the entire ride.
I have no idea what the official policy is/was for that ride, but, obviously, the policy changed situationally ;)

JeffG 07-28-2007, 11:54 AM One other thing to note is that Disney generally won't allow a child to ride while asleep. They might make an exception if the child is strapped into a Snugli (we never used one), but I don't really know for sure.

DizneyMommy 07-29-2007, 07:53 AM We took my daughter at 5-6 months in the front carrier on many of the slow easy rides, often asleep, and we were never asked to remove her. The jerkier and faster rides could be a problem - but you don't want to take a baby that young on those anyways. I know we rode Pirates, Small World, Haunted Mansion, Peter Pan, Winnie the Pooh, the Railroad, Jungle Cruise, I think Buzz Lightyear, and I think that was pretty much all I took her on at that age, but there are others you could ride.

I was in line for Peter Pan waiting with my 3 children and my DD, who was 1 at the time, fell asleep in my arms. As we were waiting, there was another woman holding a sleeping baby in her arms as she got on the ride, and the CM allowed her to hold the baby in her arms, with the baby faced towards her chest.
When we got to the front of the line, the same CM told me that my DD had to be facing the front, which of course, woke her up! I was fuming! And all during the ride, I was kicking myself for not speaking up!
Yes, it depends on the CM working at the time or maybe it depends if the CM likes you or not. Who knows??!!

losaitkens 08-03-2007, 12:12 PM Thanks for the replies. Looks like it will just depend on the CMs working the attractions. I will be prepared to wake her or sit out some rides if necesary.
I am excited either way. We had so much fun when my middle one was a baby. I was also addicted to the baby care center and nursed there often to escape the heat and crowds.
Koala Gurl 08-05-2007, 11:09 PM Yeah, I will add the same...it is inconsistent.
I had my DS in a wrap style carrier from 6 weeks on, and was never asked to remove him. My older DD (maybe around 1, 1.5 then) was in a Bjorn carrier, and I was told at Dumbo and the Carousel I couldn't have her in there (funny, since on those rides, I actually find it safer to have them in the carrier than free to fall, squirm, etc.)
jacqui trujillo chappe 08-19-2007, 12:17 AM I recently took my 3 month old to WDW -- we were there for 10 days, he was almost always in a Baby Bjorn, and we were never once asked to remove him or turn him outwards or otherwise disturb him. We only took him on slow moving rides, of course, but no one ever gave us a second glance.
NikosMom 08-30-2007, 10:52 PM I am a So. Cal. local and we go all the time. I always have my now 1 year old in a carrier. (It is exhausting holding her without a carrier in long lines!) Any ride she is allowed on I have always worn her in the carrier. I use an Ergo and have it on a hip carry though, and she sits more on my side so the restraint bar is never an issue.
