I'm planning a trip to DL in October for me, hubby, and daughter (6), and I've been trying to do some research on these 3 hotels: Tropicana Inn & Suites, Carousel Inn & Suites, and Camelot Inn.

I like the fact these hotels are close to the DL entrance. I also like that they offer a complimentary breakfast, and even though it might not be super hearty, it's at least enough to get out the door. The package price for each of these hotels is about the same.

I'm kindof leaning towards the Tropicana, but haven't made up my mind. Do you have information on these hotels that'll make the decision process easier?

We've stayed at the Tropicana Inn twice and have never had any problems there. It's super close to the park. We're going again next summer and plan on staying there. I highly recommend it.

On the rare occasion when we're staying in Anaheim for the DLR, we always stay at the Tropicana. We don't use the room for anything other than somewhere to sleep for the night, so the amenities aren't a concern for us, but we really like the place.

Although I have never stayed there, my sister-in-law says that the Carousel is great - they stay there whenever they go. I don't think it is fancy, but she likes it.

We've done them and of the 3, prefer the Carousel. Rooms are brighter, showers stay hotter longer than the Tropicana, and the staff is very friendly. Also, I like the french doors between the sleeping area and the vanity area so you can get ready without waking everyone, or have a separate changing area without being trapped in a small bathroom.

We've stayed at the Carousel, and at the Tropicana. I love the location. The Tropicana is one of our favorites.

Along the same lines, you might also want to consider the Park Vue Inn. It is even closer to the park crosswalk and is in the same price range and quality. (it used to be significantly less expensive, but i think they "upgraded" their prices during the 50th and never returned to underbidding the neighbors.)

Have fun - oh, how I wish I was there right now!!!

Thanks for the feedback so far! (Hey, Foodie, Seattleite here! :D) I've looked at the Park Vue Inn, but I'm not sure I can book them through an Alaska Airlines package. I'm not sure I'll be booking through Alaska Air, although we did last year. It just depends what kinds of specials, if any, they offer in the upcoming weeks. For now I'm just checking things out.

For the record, I've found the packages through DisneylandResort.com to be a bit more expensive, and the site is very clumsy and time consuming to navigate through!

we love the camelot! check out their family suite! tons of space and very clean! we stayed there a few weeks ago ( we were booked at the desert inn and suites, but checked out after the first night since the rooms were horrible! ) We were lucky to find the family suite at the camelot especially since it was July 4th week. I have three boys (2,4,6) and it gave us plenty of room! The living room area is nice, the adults can have some quiet time while the children sleep next door! You could watch the fireworks each night from the comfort of our living room! Their staff is awesome! super friendly! We are going back in October for 7 nights at the Camelot!

The Tropicana is their sister property, so I am sure it will be just as nice!

My friends stayed at the Carousel. It was nice, but the rooms were not as big as the Camelot. One thing I did like about their room was the hardwood floor! Their staff is extremely friendly as well!

You won't go wrong with any of those hotels! Enjoy!

+1 for the Camelot.

We stayed there a few years ago when it was still the "Park Inn Anaheim". We had a 5th floor room with a view of the 4th floor pool to our right and the Matterhorn to our left. My wife & daughter said they had a great view of the fireworks from there as well.

The room was roomy and clean and we enjoyed that Mimi's & McDonald's were so closes, yet the walk to the park was still very manageable. We stayed there because we got a killer rate from a membership we had in RPI, but we wouldn't hesitate to go back if we didn't want to stay on property.

I have not stayed at the other two properties you mention, so I cannot compare how they would be.

I will agree, the Camelot rooms (formerly Park Inn) are larger and the family suite is great. My only complaint was when they changed names, the prices went up about 25-50%.

I've stayed at all 3 as well. IMO, Carousel is the best one, Camelot second.

We have never stayed at the Carousel because our neighbors did not like it. We like the Camelot Inn, Tropicana, and Park Place Inn but could not recommend the Park Vue Inn based on staying at the Park Vue twice. However, if the web site is correct, the Park Vue has changed drastically since since 2002.

The Park Place Inn has THE BEST continental breakfast with unlimited quantities and begins at 6:30 AM while others are 7:00 AM. The Tropicana continental breakfast is very limited...not much better than Park Vue Inn or Saga while the Camelot Inn has a continental breakfast almost as good as the Park Place Inn....but in a much smaller room.

Another vote for the tropicana inn.... Never have stayed at the others so i might be biased. We love the location, the Pool area which has a nice big hot tub to soak in after all the walking in the parks... Stayed at the tropicana inn twice and will stay there again the next trip. We loved it !!!

I have had a nasty room at the Tropicana. The breakfast is very inconvenient to get to, it's on the second level. I was not impressed.

My vote is the Carousel. I love their beds and bedding (they use nice duvets) It makes me feel like I am staying at an upscale hotel. I am probably just weird, but I can't stand the usual polyester bed-spread things that you see at most economy motels/hotels. I also really love how close they are and the free continental breakfast. We couldn't get a room there for our October trip, they were sold out, so we are staying at the BWPPI and I will have to suffer with the bedding but get the closer walk in exchange. ;)

We stayed at the Carousel Inn just two weeks ago. We love the location and the beds were very comfortable, which is great after all that walking.
We made our reservations through Costco for two standard rooms. I like the fact that the bathroom vanities were separate from the shower. The best part as everyone mentions is the location. The walk is only ten minutes or less if you walk fast. We would definitely go there again.

You mean at Captain Kidd's ???

As of last January, Park Place was offering their guests choice of pancakes, or the breakfast buffet...all at Captain Kidds.

I had their pancake breakfast. It wasn't terrible. The buffet didn't look too spectacular. But, that's just my opinion.

Captain Kidds?? Carousel at least had hard boiled eggs. If you are there for the breakfast, none would rate for me. But, mas the breakfasts are free, you get what you pay for.

I've stayed at the Camelot and it was nice, good location to the park. The best park about it we paid a little bit extra a got a room with a private little balcony facing the park. PERFECT for watching the fireworks when you've got a toddler that won't stay awake!
This time around we are going to try the Tropicana just becuase it's a few steps closer.

We have stayed at the Tropicanna twice and the Carousel once. We like them both, depends on which is giving the best deal when we place over reservation! :) Tropicanna is closest to the crosswalk on Harbor...

We've only stayed at the Carousel, and we thought it was a nice place. The beds are as described, they feel very homey, as opposed to a motely feel.

We enjoyed it, and would stay there again.
