1. "THE BEST THING WE'VE EVER DONE TOGETHER."
One Sunday morning not long ago, a group of young people in scuba gear
floated happily in our Great Tide Pool exhibit, peering through masks
at the sea life below. On the deck above, digital cameras in hands,
their parents watched and waited.
"Is your son having a good time?" a staff member asked one of the dads.
He shared this story, a look of amazement on his face: He and his son
had driven down from San Jose on Saturday for a half-day visit. When
they learned the boy could sign up for Underwater Explorers, and that
the program started in 15 minutes, they jumped at the chance.
The boy felt he'd found his life's calling. He convinced Dad to let him
sign up for a second dive in the afternoon?and then book a hotel room
so he could dive a third time the next day. The casual day trip was a
life-changing experience. Said his Dad: "It's the best thing we've ever
done together. Period."
Underwater Explorers--and all of our Aquarium Adventures for kids and
adults--continue on a full schedule through Labor Day, September 4.
There's plenty of time to have a life-changing experience of your own.

2. CATCH THE PENGUINS--QUICKLY
Our penguins will take a six-month break after September 4 during
construction of new and larger Splash Zone exhibit galleries. You can
commune with your favorite birds until then. They'll return on
March 17, 2008.

3. WE'RE NO.1 FOR KIDS
It's official: Parents Magazine ranked the "Top 10 Aquarium for Kids"
in the United States, and Monterey Bay Aquarium is No. 1 on the list.
Parents cited innovative live exhibits and "the biggest collection of
...touchable, kid-friendly features of all the aquariums on our list."

4. COOL CRITTERS: MOSSY FROG TADPOLES
Look closely to find about 15 Vietnamese mossy frog tadpoles in the
craft room frog exhibit in Wild About Otters. When they develop into
frogs, they'll join the adults in the exhibit or find homes at other
aquariums. Learn more about mossy frogs and download a wallpaper:
