HI,
Just a few questions for all you LA experts.
How long do you think it's going to take me to drive from the airport (John Wayne) at 6pm on a Weds, to the Best Western on Harbor? Someone told me 1/2 hour, sound about right? Hit the 5north get off at Katella-Harbor etc.
Also, whats the best way to go? Mapquest has me going on the 405  Yahoo maps has me going on some other road the 55? to hook up with the 5.
Is it one of those 6 of one half dozen of another type deals, or should I try to avoid the 405 at all costs because it's prime commute hours
thanks

Yahoo maps has me going on some other road the 55? to hook up with the 5.
That's probably MacArthur and that's the route I'd take.
6 pm on a Wednesday it could take a little more than 30 minutes based on traffic but that's close.

30 minutes is about right.
The best route from the airport is to follow the signs to the 55 north freeway from the airport.
When you actually get onto the 55 north freeway, get into the left lane as soon as possible, and then when you can, get into the Carpool lane (I presume there are at least 2 people in the car), you can enter the lane when there are dotted white lines, do not cross the double yellow lines).
There is a special 5 North Carpool exit, take that and stay on the 5 North Carpool lane until you reach the Disney Way carpool exit.
The exit will place you westbound on Disney Way, Harbor Blvd is just 3 lights down, and if you are staying at the BW Park Place Inn, make a right on Harbor, and it will be on the right side about 4 hotels down.

A Single driver, no problem, still follow the signs to the 55 north from the airport, in just a few miles, the 5 north exit will show up on the right side, take that and stay on the 5 north until you get to the Katella Ave/Disney Way exit.
I recommend going straight through the first light (Katella) and follow the signs to Disney Way. Follow Disney Way to Harbor, then a right to BWPPI (and I presume that is the BW you are talking about, as there are multiple BW hotels on Harbor.)

Yes the Park Place Inn.
Thanks! So do not go on the 405 to get to the 5? I figure the 405 must be bad if I hear Jay Leno joke about it! I will print out your directions and put them with my notes.
thanks

You could get on the 405 to get to the 55 but there's a direct route from MacArthur to the 55 so you don't have to.
Otherwise you're going way out of your way. The 405 meets the 5 SOUTH of the airport (opposite direction of DLR) so you'd be doing a lot of backtracking. Then it meets the 5 again on the opposite side of Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley from Disneyland.
Although, the 405 in OC isn't nearly as ugly as the 405 in West LA, on Leno's end of town.

Just another local here saying that you should follow the signs to the 55N. If you're traveling elsewhere in the county, the 405 isn't too bad, I prefer it to the 5 if I have my choice... but I'm also still learning to drive, and don't have the extensive travel time others here do. Just my $0.02!!
