They must of flown into John Wayne - Orange County Airport.
Yahoo maps has it at a 14.5 mile drive taking about 18 minutes to travel.

I saw the same episode, and the odd thing was, when they showed them walking through John Wayne airport before they got on the plane. Creative editing? Their hotel was probably in Irvine, but the airport was definitely SNA (John Wayne). Someone on a thread a few months back said they saw the family at Disneyland, so I am sure they visited DL on the same trip as well, but didn't film it.

I think they do a lot of creative editing. I watch the show every week too. So of the story lines are out of sync or jump back and forth. In one scene Zack will have braces, then he wont, they he will agian, lol.

The airport is almost entriely surrounded by Irvine, Newport Beach and Costa Mesa, it's a strange little piece of Santa Ana that juts into them, so it's an easy mistake to make.

Like Vicki said, the airport borders Irvine. My husband's office is in Irvine but he could watch the planes land from his window before they built the new building between his window and the airport ;) His office is two blocks from the airport - turn right out of the parking lot for one block, turn left one block and drive INTO the airport driveway.

If that's the episode when the father took the daughter to Irvine, I noticed a couple of things about that episode...

1- It was actually filmed quite awhile before they visited Disneyland because the episodes are filmed months before they air and they visited DLR after this season started.

2- In the scene where Matt and his daughter are eating lunch and discussing travel around the United States, it looks like they're in a hotel restaurant already... check out the daughter's outfit and hair. After the lunch scene, he talks about how he decided after that meal to take his daughter on a trip. Then they show them flying into John Wayne and settling into their hotel room in Irvine.

In the scene in the hotel room in Irvine, the daughter is wearing the exact same outfit and has her hair in the exact same sloppy stuffed under her baseball cap do, with hair sticking out in the exact same places, as it had been during their lunch before he planned the trip in the first place.

There's definitely some creative editing going on ;)

<<<<15.7 miles from my addy to the parks. Give or take a couple miles depending on which route you take, there's one Mom particularly hate because there's always a plane coming in for a landing right over her as she drives by the airport. Not a bad drive though if you pick the right time of day.

Thank you everyone. I love the show. I think they stayed in a radisson hotel it looked beautifull ( not sure if that is the one they stayed in. They do have very creative editing but i enjoy the show

FOr the episode that the father and daughter were at a hotel meeting their young friend who was adopted - the hotel is the Radisson in the Spectrum - well south of the Airport (where the 405 fwy hits the 133 fwy). I recognize the interior and used to have an office right next door.

The season finale put the family in Orange County again. I know the previews showed Knotts but they probably hit DLR too (I missed the episode and will have to find a repeat). So - as far as hotels - if it was a little people convention again it should have been at a larger place: Hyatt or Marriott in Irvine. Close to the airport and FWY.

Ok, I realize that I have entirely too much space in my head for trivial information...

On the show they showed a sign that said "Doubletree" (I've seen the episode twice...) - I just googled Doubletree Irvine and got a link to a Doubletree at the Spetrum. I googled Radisson Irvine and the only link was at the airport. Did the Radisson at the Spectrum change to a Doubletree by any chance?

Is the DOuble tree the one they all stayed in when they went to knotts? if so it looked really nice . They seem to make a lot of trips i wished they would actually do DL in the show , that would be so awsome

I haven't seen that ep yet. The Doubletree is where Matt and the daughter stayed when they went to Rand McNally and they met up with the little boy who'd been adopted.

My money says that they didn't film at DLR for a couple of reasons:

1- Knotts is much more of a publicity ho than Disney is. They go after much cheaper marketing gimmicks like very cheap to free tickets, etc. So it makes sense to me that Knott's would go after the publicity by letting them film there.

2- My money says that DLR would suggest that the production company pay for the privilege to film at DLR or would be more complicated about allowing them to film at the parks.

3- If I were the Roloff's, I wouldn't mind SOME part of my vacation to not be filmed ;)

Oh, I totally get that. I just also "know" how Disney tends to work. ;) Even if you think "Wait a minute, this would be a good thing for them" they still will consider themselves doing YOU a favor and how are YOU going to pay for it. ;)
