View Full Version : Tokyo Disney Sea Album - Is it good?
JoeCanadian 06-27-2002, 11:45 PM I've been thinking about buying it based on like 30 seconds of music I heard in the queue for Journey. It was extremely dramatic music conducted by a symphony if I remember right. Would I be disspointed if I expected similar music such as that throughout the entire cd? I'm hoping there aren't any songs with spoken words.
Since it'd run me about $50 cdn to buy, has anybody listened to this cd yet? Is it good?
Iceman 07-05-2002, 06:46 AM I bought one of these discs at the park a couple of days ago. There are actually three "Official Albums of TDS", or names close to that. It's down in my car right now, but it's the one with 14 tracks or so with a couple from each part of the park. There is some of that tremendous symphonic music, but for the most part it's got English-langage lyrics and songs that I don't recall hearing at all. I was hoping for something that I could listen to that would bring back the magic of the park but I guess I picked the wrong one!
JoeCanadian 07-05-2002, 11:57 AM Does the cd in question have this cover, Iceman?

I ordered that cd, as well as the Mermaid Lagoon cd. All I have to say is "ouch!" After Japanese taxes, Canadian taxes and import duties, handling fees, exchange rate conversion, and so on....both cost about $90 cdn.
I'll be crossing my fingers there's a larger portion of orchestral music over actual singing.
JoeCanadian 07-05-2002, 12:02 PM Sorry, couldn't post the image of the cd cover. Wonder i that feature has been disabled?
Iceman 07-05-2002, 06:31 PM Yes, that's the exact one I bought. Track 14 is called "DisneySea Suite" and it's basically a medley of all the other tracks. I liked that track, but wish they had more of the attraction soundtracks and atmosphere music that I remember. You, like me, will probably be disappointed with the number of songs on this disc with lyrics. Sorry...
Iceman 07-05-2002, 07:03 PM Okay, I'm listening to the CD right now and I have to admit I'm liking it better the second time. The music really is good, it's just not what I expected or was looking for. Maybe since I've prepared you, you won't go through that initial disappointment!
tomix 07-16-2002, 09:12 PM I think a CD many of you might be interested in is the one titled "Tokyo Disneysea Aquasphere Theme Music". This has the entry fanfare and the ubiquitous synth melodies that you hear around the wickets, Aquasphere plaza, monorail station, etc. The Night version is the first song I heard when wandering around the station weeks before the park opened. This plus the Mermaid Lagoon album are the must buys (in my mind) that do the best job of transporting me back to the park.
As you may already know, the English songs that cover the ports of call on the Tokyo Disney Sea Music album don't appear anywhere in the parks, and are not particularly good. However, the album does have Stormrider, Indiana Jones, and JTCOE soundtracks.

JoeCanadian 07-20-2002, 05:48 PM Thank you for the advice tomix.
Fortunately I have already received the two cd's in the mail and I am currently listening to the first track of the Mermaid Lagoon cd. One word - "Awesome". I am still listening to the first track which is exceptionally long and absolutely sweeping. The second track (and more I'm sure more) have lyrics but they're very well done.
I don't have as many kind words for the Tokyo Disney Sea Music Album though...It's a mix of a handful of extremely good songs (Journey, Mysterious Island, StormRider Suite) and very cheesy songs (American Waterfront and parts of Tokyo DisneySea Suite)
Kuzcotopia 07-21-2002, 12:44 AM This album is very cheesy, bombastic and heart-on-your-sleeve earnest about the park.
It reminds me a lot of the original Epcot album with its diva-like ballads to abstract concepts like "Energy, You Make the World Go 'Round." ("Energy, there is no living without you, we must keep learning about you, now is the time to learn how to! Energy, these are a few of your faces/showing in timeless places/bringing our lives new graces/ Energy, you are profound, you make the world go 'round and round! You make the world go 'round...."
I like the DisneySea album because it is unashamedly an attempt to compose a symphony to the park, and it is also woefully just short of the talent to really do it right!
The songs come off as corny cliches, written and performed by people who perhaps didn't make the cut to create commercial jingles. But I love all of its corny bombast.
Lyrics like these, where they akwardly have to shoehorn in the name of the land, even to the instrumental Mysterious Island theme! With a growly salty sea dog saying "Arrrrghhh, ayam Captain Nemo (me mayties!), Welcome to Mysterious Island!" Then the background singers croon "Mysterious Island, oooohhhooohhhhh"! Love it!
More Lyrics
"Singing a Mermaid song, Ooooooohhhh
Neath the silver moon...
Singing a Mermaid song, Ooooooohhh
In this Mermaid Lagoon!"
And who could forget the bigger than life ode to Lost River Delta, the sweeping, romantic "Lost River Travels On!"? Or the wanna-be Italian arm-swinging song "Listen to the Sea" the theme of the Porto Paridiso Water Carnival show.
Love it! Pure Disney camp appeal!
