For the Fantasmic! dinner package, you make ADRs @ one of the participating full service restaurants in the Studios Park (Mama Melrose's, H'wood & Vine, or Brown Derby), and after you eat, you have seats in a reserved section in the Fantasmic! theater.
You don't pay any more for your dinner than you would if you were not on the F! package, but you do have to specifically reserve a F! dinner package. The reserved section is around on the side of the stadium, but still good seats--AND you don't have to camp out ahead of time to reserve your own seats.
You eat dinner, continue park touring, then about 20-30 mins before the show, walk in & sit down.
I don't KNOW if it's on the Deluxe Dining Plan, but it prob'ly is. It has always been on the standard MYW Disney Dining Plan.
I my opinion, the F! package is a great way to see the show, w/out wasting a lot of time in line.

My personal opinion is that if you are going during the off season, doing the F! package may not be necessary. However, as I saw during my last trip a few weeks ago, it would be a good idea during more crowded times.
At the same time, if you are on the dining package, it would not hurt either way if you plan on eating at Studios anyway.

We just did the package and ate at Hollywood and Vine. We loved the food and it is extremely nice knowing you don't have to stand in line and wait for seats. The seats IMO are good anywhere you sit in the stadium. We loved the fact that you could go do other things after eating and still make the show.

We've done it both ways. Our dinner AR was a little earlier than we would normally have done, but not a big deal. Last week we did it without the package, and waited around a little longer, but really the difference was not more than 20-30 minutes. Sitting in the special section might get you out of the park faster after the show. If memory serves, the special entrance was near the stroller rental, so you would not have to walk around to the front of the park with the masses.

Okay, my two cents is very much like others, but here goes any way! We did the package last Sept at Hollywood and Vine and it was my only let-down of our trip. It wasn't bad and it was very kid-friendly, but I felt like I wasted a TS that could have been used at sooooo many other great restaurants. Plus, I ended up deciding I really wanted my kids (all 4 were 6 and under) to have really good "front and center" seats, so we went just over an hour early anyway. Basically wasted the the whole concept of the package and priority seating, but I'm glad we did. The seats we had were fantastic and much better than the priority seating area for the package. Side note - My parents came with us on this trip, and I thought my dad was going to kill me for making him sit for over an hour after I had been talking up the package and how we wouldn't have to wait long for seats....

We did this on our last visit in January of '06. It was wonderful. We did dinner at Hollywood and Vine, which was OK - not fantastic - but I was so glad we had reserved seating. January is a slower time but the stadium was absolutely packed! It was nice to be able to have dinner and then wander around the parks and not have to worry about arriving hours in advance to have a seat. We will be back in early October and have made reservations to do the package again. You also get to exit out the reserved seating exit and it made it much quicker getting out and back to our car.
I don't think you'd regret taking advantage of this deal! Enjoy

We are going Sept 14-20, 2008, is that considered "off season" should we make the ressie?

I just want to add a little bit of crankiness here. I don't agree with those who say that there isn't a bad seat in this theater. Yes there is - the seats all the way to the outside, like the reserved seating section. I've never understood why Disney does it this way. They could easily say that the center section is reserved, giving people more of an incentive to buy the package. If I'd shelled out big bucks for a nice dinner with reserved seating, and then came into the amphitheater and saw where they were seating me, I'd be pretty upset. It probably still beats getting there 90 minutes early for the best seats, but it's always seemed something of a rip to me. If you don't mind sitting off to the side, go for it.

We always try to do the dinner package for Fantasmic for several reasons- you don't have to stand in line, you don't have to fight the crowds to find seats and by having dinner early, you can do something else before the show instead of standing in line. If you have ever had to do the standing room only area for Fantasmic- you will do the package. People get real testy in the standing room only area. After all day walking, you don't want to stand for over an hour. Next, my opinion of the dinner choices, if you have children do Hollywood and Vine or Mama Melrose. Adults only-choose Brown Derby. We love the atmosphere and it is a nice quiet place to enjoy dinner without all of the noise that naturally comes with dining with children. I recommend the cobb salad and the grapefruit cake. I only do not agree that if you are using the dining plan that it is two sit down dinner credits for the Brown Derby. The prices are comparable with many of the other restaurants that do not use two dining credits. This is kind of a rip off. Hope this helps.

Just returned from Disney World last Friday. We ate at Brown Derby with the Fantasmic package on the dining plan. The food was great and so was the service. Our group of 8 ladies throughly enjoyed the experience. I still think this is an adult only dining experience or with older children. The menu caters to adult choices and preferences. There were families there, but the kids were noisy and babies crying was irritating. It is better to bring children to Hollywood and Vine if you want the Fantastmic package.
