The Kona Cafe will be a first-time spot this trip (and anything at the Poly--never visited there on a resort hop day).

Anyone ever eaten here? What's the best thing on the menu? Can't eat fish (allergic), but LOVE vegetarian, chicken, beef, or pork....

Well, the Macadamia Crusted Mahi Mahi is absolutely the most heavenly thing on the menu... darn!!!

OK, my mom had the filet mignon and she said it was "like buttah"... you can cut it with a fork and the sauce was yummy too.

So my mom and I are going in January and I'm curious about the DDP. We aren't big enough eaters to pay for us to both have the plan. We're sharers but the draw of ordering whatever I want on the menu is tempting. Also, I would much rather pay for food before I go than worry about it while I'm there. How strict are they on sharing? What if one used the DDP and one just ordered an appetizer? Or nothing? Is that allowed? Is it possible to get a package for two adults and just get one DDP? Am I better off to just eat like a normal person than worry about the DDP?

Unfortunately, when you get the dining plan, everyone on the reservation has to get it, too. It'll be better for you guys to pay out of pocket.

The Kona is the place I have to eat at every trip. The food there is great! I always have the duck won-tons, the beef teriyaki and the white chocolate cheesecake.

Unless you plan on eating a lot of table service meals...
Say you're staying 3 nights, 4 days. If you get the DDP, you'll have 6 table service credits, 6 counter service credits, and 6 snacks to use while you're there. If you two shared every table service meal, you could have 4 dinners and 2 lunches paid for already, and you could use the counter service credits for the rest of your lunches and your breakfasts. But from the sound of it, I still don't think it would be cost effective for you.

Thanks to those with tips about Kona. My DH and I are eating there for the first time on our upcoming trip. We have ADRs for dinner one night, and breakfast on another day. (I booked the last seating for breakfast, at 11:10am. My plan is for us to eat Tonga Toast for lunch!)

The mahi mahi looked good, and the macadamia chicken looked good too. Any other suggestions?

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. We'll be there 8 or 9 days but there may be days we only eat two meals and the last time we went to Disneyland, we were able to share at almost every restaurant. Well boo to that. It was worth a shot. :)

You know what, you're not missing out. I mean, yes, I love using the DDP, but being a type A personality, I'm always adding things up and worrying whether we're ordering the combination of items that will make the $39/day/person worthwhile. It's an added element of stress that I probably don't need on vacation, but let's face it, I'd find something to stress about.

Another question! How strict is WDW on sharing? I know at the Blue Bayou in Disneyland, they charge a plate sharing fee. I'm curious if WDW does this too. (I personally think it's stupid but that's probably because I'm the one paying the fee. heh)

I always get the same meal at the Kona (it's so good), but I'm told the filet mignon there is also delicious.

BTW - I meant duck potstickers, not won-tons. :p

Maybe I'll get the filet there. I usually get the filet at Artist Point, but I've decided this time to try their house special (salmon).

As far as plate sharing, I've never seen anything on the menu that indicates there's a charge, but I've never shared a table service meal there, so I don't know. I know a lot of other posters say they've shared meals, so maybe do a search on the board. If you can't find the answer, ask the question on this thread. I have seen people say that when they tell the server that they're sharing, that sometimes the entree is brought out split onto two plates, but I think your mileage may vary...

I have just (nearly) booked our next Disney hol on the cheapest web site I can find in the UK. Issue is it doesn't offer the dining plan as an add on and much as we'll never eat this much food, it will still be cheaper than what we spent on food last April without it. If I book the package minus the dining plan off this site will I be able to ring the hotel direct and get the dining plan added on and pay them for it?

Since all table service locations you would most likely need reservations, I'd recommend calling WDW directly to set that up. Be sure to have your reservation number if possible to make it easier for them. Their number is 407-W-DISNEY (unfortunately, there are no toll free numbers).

I called Walt Disney Travel company and asked about that before I booked this vacation and they said no. I would double check the numbers on the cheap website against Disney's website, and book through them if the difference isn't that much.

scoobydooby,
I believe you have to add the dining plan 2 weeks before your trip (you can't do it on site). Also, this would most likely be considered using an outside travel agent, and Disney won't let you modify your reservation if you're working with a TA, the TA has to do it. That MIGHT not be the case in your sitation, since they have some very different offers for the British fans, but I wouldn't be surprised if you had that limitation. It also might not technically be a 'package' on the Disney side of things (if the website is bundling the room and tickets for you), which is another requirement to book the dining plan.

Hi all ... my family of four are going to WDW from Dec 12 - Dec 19. I have made the following ADRs .... please tell me what you think. I should mention we're on the Dining Plan. My wife was looking at the menus and thought it wasn't enough variety and would be too much steak (I disagree I could eat steak 7 days a week :p). Besides we always have the CS for a change! I was hoping for something Italian but was told they're not taking reservations yet for Tuttu Italia (believe that is the name of the restaurant replacing Alfredos) - didn't really like Tonys at MK last time and have heard mixed reviews of Mama Melrose - or possibly something Asian like Tampuras or Teppanyaki or even Mexican like San Angel Inn ... anybody try any of these? So many restaurants so few days to try them all. Anyway, let me know what you think and if you think I should make any changes. Thanks!

12/12 - Kona Cafe - Dinner
12/13 - Wolfgang Puck - Dinner - after Cirque Du Soleil
12/14 - 50's Prime Time Cafe - early dinner then get a seat for Fantasmic
12/15 - Coral Reef - after diving in the aquarium!
12/16 - Seaworld (not sure if I should make reservation or eat outside WDW
12/17 - Late lunch at Liberty Tree Tavern - MVMCP at night
12/18 - Prob CS before catching our flight at 3:00.

Wow, I'm surprised they aren't taking reservations for the Italian place, yet. It's included as a Candlelight package location, so you'd think they would.

Speaking of which are you planning on watching the Candlelight Processional? If so, the dining package really makes it more convinent. Mark had it in this week's update. Maybe you can get to the Italian restaurant that way? I believe it just counts as a TS credit to get the package. (But not sure how you can fit it in, unless you turn your Coral Reef into a Candlelight package, which might work out great for you).

I really don't think you have too much steak in your ADRs. I fully expected to see Le Cellier and Concourse in your list, based on the statement I quoted above. Unfortunately, many of the menus have gone very generic.

Even though you're going at a slower time of year, I HIGHLY recommend making ADRs for all your TS credits, otherwise you may not be able to use them. What about some place like Boma on your Seaworld day? Wouldn't need a park entrance, either.

Note to Drince88 .... thanks for your reply ... we went to the Candlelight Processional the last two times we were there ... it was great ... but we decided not to attend this year. Thanks again.

I have to learn not to hit submit so quickly ... Drince88 I have ADRs for all of the restaurants listed ... just wasn't sure if I should cancel any and try for a different restaurant ... thanks. Also have park-hoppers for our entire stay so our Seaworld day we could get back and head out for dinner.

Yea, it does take a chunk of time, and it's not like you don't know how the story comes out :D

We did it the last year they allowed you to eat after it, and that was SO great for us (we could really relax and enjoy the meal and a glass of wine or two), that I'm just having troubles getting my arms around having to eat beforehand.
