Does anyone have any idea what's going on with Disney's stock price recently? Since Tuesday, it's dropped like $1/50 (about 4%). It's actually been a relatively steady decline since about mid-May, and is now trading around where it was in late March.

I know the stock market in general (especially the Dow and the S&P 500) have been trending similarly, but this week it seems more pronounced for Disney than the others. Today, the broader markets actually recovered pretty well today, and Disney was still down.

I own Disney stock, and I'm not planning on selling. I'm just curious if I'd missed some major news that spooked Disney investors.

The only thing I can think of is the lower-than-predicted take for Pirates 3. It's a strange world when the 4th-best opening ever is considered a disappointment, but that's the only negative news I've heard recently.

Like Spiderman 3, Pirates 3 had a steep drop off the second weekend which means that word of mouth was either that it was disappointing or that, "It's long and it's not as good as the first one, but it's better than the second." That didn't inspire people like me to go see it and raise Disney's stock.

I'd rather raise the stock of the companies that made "Once" or "Knocked Up." (Don't tell me--Disney? ) I hope that the growing influence of Metacritic.com and RottenTomatoes will be to Brookheimer & Michael Bay what the "talkies" were silent-film piano players.

That's all I could think of too, especially given the positive publicity connected to the new Submarine Voyage. And still the price drops (down almost another 2% today).
