View Full Version : Help with underwear
Raven 06-06-2007, 08:08 AM OK. I've started my training for the Las Vegas Half Marathon. I am so very new to running. I have a question which may seem silly, but I have to ask. I know cotton is not good for running so, what kind of underwear should I be wearing? I feel silly for asking this question, but please help! Thanks!
DisneylandForever 06-06-2007, 08:41 AM Are you a boy or a girl?
These (http://www.underarmour.com/ProductDetail.cfm?site_id=1&dept_id=7&coll_id=1114&pf_id=1000666) work for me. I should add that I am also new to the sport of running, but I've been an athlete all my life.
I would have no advice for you if you were a girl, lol. But there are plenty of females in here that I'm sure can answer that.
But here's Under Armour women's underwear (http://www.underarmour.com/ProductFullLine.cfm?site_id=2&dept_id=7&coll_id=2114), if you're interested.
Raven 06-06-2007, 09:04 AM OOPSS, I guess that is a good question! I am a girl.
DatabaseDiva 06-06-2007, 09:05 AM I bought a rather expensive pair of microfiber underwear at a race expo a few years ago. I figured that if expensive microfiber worked, less expensive microfiber might work, too, so I bought several 3 packs at Costco. They work just fine. On cold days, and for short runs, I still wear cotton.

That's a good point. When it's chilly out it doesn't really matter. But when it's warm (or if you're running on a treadmill) cotton can get pretty moist! I'm all about the microfiber. It works great.
stan4d_steph 06-06-2007, 09:22 AM I'm a girl. I wear spandex shorts or tights to run.
I don't wear any underwear when I run.
As long as you are wearing shorts with a built-in liner or with a separate fabric sewn in around the crotch area, you really don't want to be wearing any underwear at all. It will cause extra chafing. That said, DO make sure the shorts you pick are designed for women and that come with a built-in liner or crotch area. The men's versions don't always come that way.
RunninDisney 06-06-2007, 11:57 AM My race ready shorts have the built in liner thing. When I'm not wearing those, I have some adidas compression shorts that I love.
My wife goes commando.
timl33 06-14-2007, 11:48 PM I  this thread.
Seriously though, I wear shorts with built in compression liners in them. Works for us guys. Vaseline (or aquaphor) also works to minimize chafing.
RunninDisney 06-18-2007, 07:00 AM Ewww, vaseline?? Go get yourself some bodyglide. Sooo much better, with no mess.

Actually yeah, I forgot about bodyglide. That stuff works much better.

Bodyglide might work better, but when you get to the race, that stuff they pass you on the stick is Vaseline -- don't eat it! I know someone who did during his first marathon, because he didn't know what it was. :D

 Thats too funny.
I like it when people take biofreeze thinking that it is vasoline.
