jcruise86 05-31-2007, 02:27 AM Good call on replacing HISTA--if something is to go.
I'd like to have HISTA replaced with a 360 theater that rotated the films at different times of the year. They could present a new 360 world tour, the EPCOT China film (but not Canada's--no offense tour our neighbors to the north--they deserve a better movie), and could show "America the Beautiful" and other earlier 360 films as sort of a semi-permanent 360 film fest.
A new 360 world tour movie could also be shown at other Disney parks, and could even plug each other's parks and hotels. ("Around the World with Disney!") Many Disney fans are interested in all the Disney parks and hotels, and teasing looks at Tokyo, Hong Kong and Paris Disneylands could each be shown in under a minute--maybe way under a minute. And, of course, I would like to see international natural scenes like Victoria Falls & Antarctica, as well as new man-made wonders like those in Dubai & Shanghai. Such a film could be uplifting while making Disneyland seem more edifying.
Tangent: If replacing HISTA with a 360 theater is out of the question, and if the Disney Resort could find the space, I think they could make a little money by setting up a dark tent and charging S. Cal's many film fans :geek: a separate admission for a short 360 film fest of the (restored) old films.
Andrew 05-31-2007, 11:10 AM If the question is keeping attraction numbers stable, then we're just now coming back to parity with 1992. Closing another attraction would throw the balance back to negative.
Mission to Mars closed in '92 (-1), Captain EO closed in '94 (-2), PeopleMover closed in '95 (-3), Rocket Jets & CircleVision closed in '97 (-5), Submarine Voyage closed in '98 (-6), Swiss Family Treehouse and Rocket Rods closed in '99 (-8); Indiana Jones Adventure opened in '95 (+1), Rocket Rods, Innoventions, HIStA, Astro-Orbitor opened in '98 (+5), Tarzan's Treehouse opened in '99 (+6), Buzz Lightyear opened in '05 (+7), Nemo Subs open in '07 (+8).
Niwel 05-31-2007, 11:57 AM As much as we've all seen HISTA oodles of time, people still go see it -- anything where you can sit in A/C for more than a few minutes is a lure in the summer.
Although I wouldn't mind Mickey's Philharmagic taking over... :)
Bytebear 05-31-2007, 12:09 PM I think they should not close anything, and leave Disneyland alone for a few years, and do a full revamp of DCA. That is where the money should go. HISTA is fine for what it is. Sure the kid has nerdy 80s glasses, but he is a nerd, so it fits just fine. I do think they should get rid of the huge unused queue area though and open up the space a bit.
Disneymooner 05-31-2007, 12:24 PM I also say boot HISTA - it's so tired! And bring in PhilharMagic... it doesn't really fit with the theme of the land, but shoot - it's amazing!
Alex S. 06-01-2007, 06:37 PM Get rid of HISTA and put in a salad bar. Disneyland really needs a good salad bar.

Heck Yes! Good call Alex, I'm with you on this one:)

Darkbeer 06-02-2007, 09:39 AM The one thing that might save HISTA is the fact that Kodak sponsors the attraction, and that it is a lower cost attraction to operate, only a few CM's are needed to staff the attraction. Glasses need to be washed, and a few replaced on a regular basis, but they are not expensive to buy in bulk.

Actually, they used to have a salad bar - it's now not as prevalent anymore. When new Tomorrowland opened, they decided to go with edible vegetation, so most of the plants and things in the land were vegetables or fruits or herbs. When the various things would bloom, we made jokes all the time about going to the Tomorrowland salad bar.
