My DW, DS, DD and I arrived Friday night at the BW Park Place Inn and Mini Suites to get a good rest before our trip for our DD’s 21st BD and DS’s college graduation celebration.
We spent Saturday at DCA, wanting to avoid the madness of the premier at DL. As a result, we rode several attractions that we had not done before, and some others that we had not ridden in a long time. It was enjoyable, but, boy, do they need to get some shade trees in that park! We entered the park at opening and walked on to Soarin’. We did it again in the afternoon with only a 20 minute wait. ToT was a walk on and our first time to ride. Loved it! We also saw the Aladdin show for the first time. We had fourth row, right side seats. Also wonderful. I think their genie rivaled Robin Williams.
Sunday we headed to DL. Stopped first at BRB for pastries and coffee, then sat at Coke Corner and watch the crowds rush by. After that, we headed to Pirates. It was the first time for the kids since the additions. DD liked them all, DS didn’t like the Jack additions.
Monday through Wednesday, the park seem crowded for weekdays. There seemed to be a large number of school age children skipping school. We spoke with one grandmother, who was with her grandson, who said her grandchildren were there because they were home schooled. That, however, can’t explain the large numbers. Another reason it seemed crowded could be because of the space taken up by the seats for the premier, and also because of the Twain, Columbia, Pirates Lair at TSI, and Railroad being down -- all big crowd eaters. Despite that, wait times were very reasonable. Space at 30 minutes and 15 minutes the two times the kids rode it, and BTMRR and Pirates almost walk-ons
We ate all our meals in the park and found them to range from acceptable – Rancho – to excellent – BB, which was a pleasant surprise considering the terrible experience DW and I had there last October. We also had an excellent breakfast at CC and had a good visit with Oscar, who said he is retiring soon, something he has been saying for a while now. We also had an excellent meal at Storyteller’s for my DD’s 21st BD Wednesday night. She asked the waiter for a recommendation for a first “legal” drink, he suggested the “Bluetini.” Which was a blueberry martini. It had a plastic ice cube with a flashing light. When it was brought out, a little girl sitting close by said, “I want one of those!” “No, that’s a grownup drink,” her mother replied, So funny. Rancho was rated only as acceptable because we prefer the Southwestern Mexican food we have here in New Mexico, where we have a choice of either red or green chili sauce. We also ate at Café Orleans for lunch one day. Food good, service not so. My full reviews of the restaurants can be found on MP’s review page later.
We rode JC three times during the visit and all the skippers were great, but especially Jerry. The great majority of the CMs had wonderful attitudes and seemed sincerely wanting to ensure our good time.
We awoke at 3 a.m. Thursday for our 11-hour trip back home, all happy with a wonderful visit.
