1. EXHIBIT NEWS
BLACK SEA TURTLES
Our two female black sea turtles are back in the Outer Bay exhibit.
We moved them into a large holding pool just off the million-gallon
exhibit during recent repairs to the Outer Bay's back walls. For more
about these and other new exhibit animals, visit: http://www.mbayaq.org/news/
BIRDS IN BREEDING PLUMAGE
It's spring everywhere, including in our Aviary exhibit. That means
male birds (mostly) are in breeding plumage--including our male ruddy
duck, which is now sporting a blue beak. The Aviary is also a hubbub
of activity, as breeding pairs stake out nesting sites and shoo other
birds away; our aviculturists give some of the more aggressive ones a
"time out" away from the exhibit for a few days. For more inside
stories, chat with the volunteer guides inside the exhibit.

2. PROMOTIONS & EVENTS
WORLD OCEAN DAY CELEBRATION, JUNE 8 (SAT.)
"Seas the day" and help us celebrate our oceans at World Ocean Day
Celebration on June 9. The festive day will be filled with live music,
arts and crafts and special programs. Help us honor the treasures of
the ocean and learn about the role we play in assuring healthy oceans
for future generations. This fun, educational and inspiring party is
free with aquarium admission.
SUMMER EVENING HOURS
Evenings by the Bay, May 26-September 2 (Sat. and Sun. only)
You'll have more time to enjoy our exhibits this summer with the debut
of "Evenings by the Bay." Each Saturday and Sunday from Memorial Day
weekend through Labor Day weekend, we'll stay open until 8 p.m.--two
extra hours to commune with your favorite creatures. In addition to
all of our exhibits and programs, you'll enjoy live jazz, our Portola
Restaurant will serve food and drinks, and we're planning special
programs. Of course, it's also a great time to see our newest
additions: freshwater otters from Asia and Africa in Wild About Otters.
AQUARIUM ADVENTURES & STAR SPANGLED SAIL
Summer's almost here! Enhance your family's aquarium experience and
fill your summer with more fun than ever this year with "Aquarium
Adventures" programs, including a surface SCUBA adventure for kids
ages 8 to 13, daytime research sailing excursions and Evening Breezes
cruises on Monterey Bay, behind-the-scenes feeding tours and more.
New this year is our "Star Spangled Sail" on July 4--watch fireworks
burst overhead as you sip wine and enjoy dessert on the beautiful
Derek M. Baylis.

3. CONSERVATION IN ACTION
Help Curb Marine Debris
About 80% of the garbage found in the ocean comes from land--and
there's a floating island of trash twice the size of Texas in the
mid-Pacific. We can act now to reduce the amount of trash entering
the ocean so we have clean, safe beaches for us--and marine life--to
enjoy! California's considering several proposals to help reduce marine
debris, and by speaking out now, you can make a difference.
