View Full Version : Running routes around Disneyland
Rteneyck 05-17-2007, 09:57 AM Hi. Does anyone have any good running tips for running at Disneyland. I will be staying at the GCH in June and I need to get in at least 3 runs while I am there. I am looking for short runs 3 - 4 mi. Does anyone have good easy routes to follow ( I can get lost easy). I found one on mapmyrun going on S Disneyand dr to Katella - then to Harbor and then up to Ball Round and then back down Disneyland dr. It is showing about 3 mi or so. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Whew! I KNEW it was still up but it's no longer a direct link from the list of articles I wrote.
Back in April 2002 (wow, 5 years ago), I wrote a travel article on how to squeak in exercise on your Disneyland vacation. Here's the relevant information for you:
One route I heartily recommend at the Disneyland Resort for both walkers and runners is the loop around the resort perimeter. This loop consists of Disneyland Drive, West Ball Road, South Harbor Boulevard, and West Katella Avenue. These four roads circle the resort in its entirety in a rectangular configuration.
The loop totals roughly three miles, with Harbor and Disneyland Drive each running about a mile long, and Ball and Katella each running about a half a mile long. If you wish to halve the route, cut through the resort esplanade that separates Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure parks. Start at any spot along the route, and keep taking right turns if you are going clockwise (or left if you are going counter-clockwise).
Three miles is a perfect distance to work up a sweat, and serious runners can easily multiply the loop to their desired distance. This loop, because it shoulders the resort at all times, is generally safe. There are no major hills, except for the freeway overpass on Harbor (which is still more of a mole hill than anything), and there is a sidewalk at all times.
Rteneyck 05-17-2007, 12:30 PM OMG Thank you sooo much!! This really helps. I was hoping that my little post didn't get lost.. That sounds perfect. :)
DatabaseDiva 05-17-2007, 11:28 PM I ran the Disneyland perimeter in March, plus a 5 mile tangent through the neighborhoods south of the park. We ran a total of 8 miles, and I was disappointed when it was over. At least I got to console myself with a day at Disneyland.
Here is a list of running maps for running in the Disneyland area

Rteneyck 05-22-2007, 08:57 AM Thanks so much for the link. One quick question -- Can you tell me if W. Magic way goes thru. I was thinking of ending a run going up Walnut and going onto w. magic way to Disneyland dr. Do you think that would work?
LoveDISNEY 06-29-2007, 08:16 AM I know I read this somewhere but my search turned up nothing :(
Can you jog in DCA in the mornings? My husband would like to try it but is not sure if it is possible...

kranders 09-25-2007, 08:33 AM I'm staying at the PPH and have just started running/jogging. I'm looking for an easy route of 3 to 5 miles hopefully starting at the PPH and going through Downtown Disney at least once. It would be an early morning run at daybreak so crowds and traffic shouldn't be a problem but I'm always looking for pedestrian areas where I don't need to compete with cars.
Any experience or advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Darren 10-03-2007, 03:03 PM I am heading to DLR next week and I am wondering where i could run in the morning. I am staying at HoJo and I was thinking I could run through the esplanade through DTD down to Katella to Harbor and just keep looping it to get the distance I want. I've heard some areas of Anaheim are seedy so I'd like to stay in safe areas. Any ideas?
I know there have been past threads on this but I couldn't find it.
Mrs Mouse 10-03-2007, 04:00 PM Here's a thread (http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/showthread.php?t=70506&highlight=California+Adventure+running) from a few months ago that might help you out a bit.
I've also known folks who jogged through DTD in the morning. Though you may have to loop it, this does seem like one of the safest early-morning options.

kranders 10-04-2007, 07:01 AM Darren,
I'm going to be out next week, too. I'm looking for a 3-5 mile jog in the early AM. We should get together (I'm SLOW). I figure the three miles around the perimeter looks pretty good, maybe an out and back through the esplanade to up the milage and just for the fun and experience of the location. I'm staying in the Paradise Pier from 10/7-14. PM me or reply here if you want to try to get together.
stan4d_steph 10-04-2007, 07:48 AM I agree that the perimeter run is probably your best bet for shorter mileage.
When I was out last fall, I met up with the Team in Training group for my long run (14 miles); they ran along the Santa Ana River trail. You'd need a car to get there.
BayAreaDisneyFan 12-06-2007, 10:20 AM Wondering if anyone has a good two to four mile running route around the grounds of the DLR. We're staying at GCH, and I'd be interested in an early morning run around the property. This would keep to publicly accessible areas of course, but ideally would take me past some sights I am not likely to see or notice during a normal visit to the park (e.g. back sides of attractions, views into inner workings of the resort as it wakes up, etc.) Any ideas?
Drince88 12-06-2007, 10:34 AM I merged your thread with one that answers your question. Please see above
