DH, DDs (9&5) and I are breezing through for a weekend and have never done any table service at DLR. We will have time to do one - probably for dinner - atmosphere, theming and variety of food is the priority. Moderate cost would be a plus and unless it is a must-not-miss we aren't looking for character meal this time around. In the parks would be first choice but DD is ok too.
suggestions!?

Closest I would choose would be Cafe Orleans or Carnation Cafe. Blue Bayou isn't moderate, but decent. Look at dlresortinfo.com for menus then decide!!

We liked Blue Bayou when we were there 2 trips ago. You can check out menus at allearsnet.com and user reviews here at MP. You'll get a ton of responses here on the boards....Have a great trip!

This is the easiest question I have seen: Blue Bayou. Done. For atmosphere, I would totally agree, but not for moderate cost, with an average cost of $33 per adult (average cost of meal, beverage, and tax, tip not included).

I agree on cost, but I do think this is a must see. No other restaurant in or out of the park compares, unless you go Napa Rose or even Story Teller, but neither of those are particularly "Disney", but they are nice (and pricy).

I would recommend the Blue Bayou, but you'll need to call and make a reservation ASAP. They're extremely busy these days:) Although the prices aren't low, they are very fair for the quality and portion size. Wait for a table by the water, it's worth the extra time. Have fun!

Another vote for Blue Bayou. Great setting! If you have time, be willing to wait for a waterside table.

If you are taking kids, the Blue Bayou is the way to go! If you can, try to time it such that you go on Pirates right before your reservation (be sure to leave a big enough cushion of time in case of long lines, etc.). The kids meals are not all that expensive. My little brother (11) and I ate there fairly reasonably (costs about the same as a moderate-to-fancy restaurant in any major city), and even had enough money left for a cookie boat (devilishly delightful) to end our meal! Don't expect Denny's prices, or portions, but expect fantastic food and an unbeatable atmosphere! Rainforest Cafe is pretty cool, too, but since it is a chain (with locations scattered amongst 15 states), opt for the originality of the Blue Bayou.

I would cast my vote for Blue Bayou. A great ambience and setting. The food is great too. You should call and get reservations however. Just showing up there is difficult.
Have fun and enjoy!

wow - so I guess everyone likes blue bayou? LOL !!! I was curious about storytellers, but someone up there said it isn't very "disney". ?? I have sorted through some of the reivews but it is hard to choose... that is why I posted if you could ONLY DO ONE (ARGH!) !!! :) that makes it really tough to choose....

The Blue Bayou is the way to go. The food is great, no matter what you order & don't forget to order a mint julep. Sure it is a little spendy, but it is worth it. Also if this is a treat, don't be shy about asking for a table close to the water. We will even wait a little longer if needs be.

I'm not sure what the person meant by it not being very Disney, but we like Storyteller's for breakfast and dinner. I'd avoid lunch there.

That was me... Don't get me wrong, the Storyteller is a great restaurant, but other than Character meals, it doesn't feel very "Disney". It actually reminds me more of the old west, campfires and such, but upscale and fancy. You can't go wrong with a restaurant (Bayou) that is actually part of a classic Disney attraction, and given the popularity of the upcoming movie (Pirates of the Caribbean), it's a no brainer. Do Blue Bayou.

Blue Bayou is great for atmosphere, but we didn't care for the food or the prices. We love the French Market, especially when the band is playing. The last time we were there, a pirate visited our table and spent alot of time with my son. It was great. The food has always been great as well.

Last time I went to Blue Bayou, it was in early March, 2006 and it was wonderful. Great table by the water, great server and excellent food. If cost is a consideration, you might think about going for lunch instead of dinner. The ambiance is the same but the menu offers less expensive meals.
My friend had the Jambalaya and raved about it, I had a seafood salad (that I can't find on a menu now) that had bay shrimp and salmon if I recall correctly. I know that we both really enjoyed it.
I have not been since they've changed the menu, but watching the boats go by and feeling the bayou ambiance is something you should definitely do at least once.

How much in advance can you make your reservations? I was thinking it was only 90 days in advance. I am dying to be able to make our September reservations. If I can do it now, that would be wonderful!!!

The rules are that you have to be within 60 days to make the rez.
(714)781-DINE (3463) option 4 (I think)

I would definitely choose Blue Bayou. Don't think I'm into sticking with trends, but I have an emotional connection to this place. My only trip to Disneyland we ate there, and I literally had to ask whether we were indoors or outdoors. It's so beautiful and realistic inside! The food was great, too, but I was having too much fun with my family to notice.
