Hamas 'Mickey Mouse' Preaches Resistance (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2007/05/08/international/i142237D29.DTL&feed=rss.news) -- SFGate/AP, 2007-05-08
Hamas militants have enlisted a figure bearing a strong resemblance to Mickey Mouse to broadcast their message of Islamic domination and armed resistance to their most impressionable audience — children.
A giant black-and-white rodent — named "Farfour," or "butterfly," but unmistakably a rip-off of the Disney character — does his high-pitched preaching against the U.S. and Israel on a children's show each Friday on Al-Aqsa TV, a station run by Hamas. The militant group, sworn to Israel's destruction, shares power in the Palestinian government.
...
A spokeswoman from Walt Disney Co.'s headquarters in Burbank, Calif., did not immediately return messages asking for comment about the use of the Disney-like character.

Mickey is a symbol of things that are pure and good, and these people are using him to spew their hate rhetoric. To children!! It's disgusting, and I hope that Disney can put a stop to it.

There isn't a lot that Disney can do to stop it. They can ask but we all know terrorists feel that they're above any law or legal standing. Public outcry might be the only hope Disney has....not that Hamas cares about that either.

I agree, I guess it is a pretty thin hope. :(

Here's another article...
So I ask, what is the response to such 'inbred' hatred? Can we ever hope to overcome this teaching? At what point to we give in and realize that we're not going to change hearts and minds, no matter how much money we pour into the region?

We just need to understand them and talk to them. Everything will be fine.

Militant 'Mickey Mouse' Pulled Off Air (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2007/05/09/international/i114832D94.DTL) -- SFGate/AP, 2007-05-09
Hamas militants have suspended a TV program that featured a Mickey Mouse lookalike urging Palestinian children to fight Israel and work for global Islamic domination, the Palestinian information minister said Wednesday.
Information Minister Mustafa Barghouti said the character — a giant black-and-white rodent with a high-pitched voice — represented a "mistaken approach" to the Palestinian struggle against Israeli occupation.
He said that the program was pulled from Hamas-affiliated Al Aqsa TV at his ministry's request and "placed under review."

That approach worked so well for Jimmy Carter in his dealing with the USSR. Not that Bush's exact opposite approach has been a smashing success.
Today the L.A. Times had an editorial about Hammas Mickey titled, "Because we hate you."

Six party talks have appeared to be slightly more successful than Clinton's talks with NK... But time will tell.
I think we should continue talking about Darfur. Maybe if we talk enough we can stop it...

About darn time...
When I saw what they were doing I got sick to my stomach (although I wouldn't put it past them to try something so awful).

Disney explains reaction to Hamas show (http://www.mercurynews.com/celebrities/ci_5949422) -- MercuryNews/AP, 2007-05-21
The Walt Disney Co. didn't speak out when Hamas militants used a Mickey Mouse look-alike to preach Islamic domination because the company felt it would be ineffective, Disney's chief executive said Monday.
Disney CEO Robert Iger said he and other executives considered ways to react to the recent Hamas show for children that featured someone dressed in what appeared to be a Mickey Mouse costume, railing against Israel and the United States in a high-pitched cartoonish voice.
"We didn't mobilize our forces and seek to either have the clip taken down or to make any broad public statement about it," Iger told a gathering of the Society of Business Editors and Writers at the Disneyland Hotel.
