Goal of trip: To ride Spaceship Earth and take as many pictures as possible before they change it.
What Happened: Well, I checked the weather before I left and there were severe thunderstorms in the area. I decided I could get there before they hit, so I left my house and drove to Epcot. Weeeellll, around International Drive, the lovely severe thunderstorm hit! Eek. I drove the rest of the way to Epcot in blinding rain, lightning all around and 60 mph wind gusts. I was quite scared let me tell you. I was relieved to make it to the parking lot. It looked like the worst was passing, but there was still a lot of lightning, so I sat in my car for about a half hour until the constant flashes and rumblings moved off into the distance. Then I ventured out and into the park.
As I walked through the parking lot, a car stopped and a lady asked me (with the Epcot ball in full view) if this was the Magic Kingdom. I said, no, this is Epcot. She says, how do we get to Magic Kingdom? I tell her to exit the parking lot and follow the signs, or park here and take the monorail.
So I get to SE, and there are people waiting outside. Apparently they won't let anyone ride when there is lightning nearby. So I go have a snack at Electric Umbrella and come back. I ride SE three times, taking pics in different sections. I was trying not to take too many at once so as not to annoy fellow passengers. Then I went for a walk and got to Club Cool (Ice Station Cool to me!). Hooray, they de-carbonated Vegitabeta so it is good again. I watched a few unsuspecting Beverly drinkers, then left and went to Mexico. I rode El Rio for the second time since they redid it. At least now I know there is an actual storyline, but I still miss the relaxation of the old version. I ate dinner in China, then headed back out and rode SE one last time, taking some more pics of things I missed the first three times!
A nice little afternoon at Epcot, once I got past the very scary drive in the thunderstorm!
