We have two daughters (age 5 and 7). Many people have told me to get a stroller for them because there will be a lot of walking in all of the parks. Should we rent a double stroller or take 2 umbrella strollers? Thanks!

View Full Version : Strollers [Double or two separate in WDW?] mitzi 05-04-2007, 08:06 PM We have two daughters (age 5 and 7). Many people have told me to get a stroller for them because there will be a lot of walking in all of the parks. Should we rent a double stroller or take 2 umbrella strollers? Thanks! WDW heart 05-04-2007, 08:08 PM We rented strollers for our girls at that age. At that age, that's what I would recommend doing. The only place I might just have them walk, if you think they could make it, is Animal Kingdom. It just doesn't seem to be built for lots of strollers and people on the walkways. lauras5boys 05-04-2007, 09:48 PM It depends upon your kids. Last April there was no way on earth my 5 year old was going to sit in a stroller. :p I did end up renting a double for 2 out of 10 days for my 4 year old twins but even they didn't use it much. We brought an umbrella stroller for my 1 year old though because we needed it for the airport anyway. I'd wait and see if they even need it and if they do I'd just rent one there. VickiC 05-04-2007, 11:22 PM My opinion, which may not be a popular one, is that if you are doing so much every day that a 5 and 7 year old can't keep up, you are doing tooo much and need to slow down. I've done several vacations (not WDW, but similiar amounts of walking) with my kids around that age with no strollers and had no problems. Vegitabeta 05-05-2007, 05:20 AM I walked around DLP for 4/5 days when I'd just turned 6 and I had no problem with it, do you have to get a stroller? jengold29 05-05-2007, 01:43 PM If anything I'd bring an umbrella stroller from home. My kids are now 5 and 9 and I find that they can walk around all day with no problems but the walk at the end of the day (from the park exit) to the bus/car/monorail and from the stop to the room that is difficult for my youngest. We use the stroller to hold our junk during the day, park it, fold it as needed. You could probably check it too. MrsIncredible 05-05-2007, 02:47 PM Are the double strollers double-wide or tandem? If they are not tandem, I would forgo renting a double and either rent or bring two singles... double wides in the park would be a nightmare! If you plan on using the strollers for more than two days, buying 2 cheap umbrella strollers would be cheaper than renting, even if you didn't cart the strollers home. scoobydooby 05-05-2007, 02:49 PM Should we rent a double stroller or take 2 umbrella strollers? Thanks! Get the double stroller unless your children love to walk. Day 1 of our recent trip with active, slender, 5 and 8 yr olds we refused stroller; day 2 and 3 we caved in to single stroller for 5 year old; by day 4 we had a double! Much quicker, held the bag too and children had a ball gassing to each other in it. I am a bit of a soft touch though ;) VickiC 05-05-2007, 04:18 PM 8??? Stop the madness. Seriously, when does it end? Last year we went to London for 7 days. We relied soley on public transit and our feet. My husband and I and his 65 year old mother and our then 4 and 7 year old girls walked. And walked, and walked, by the end of each day I think we all would have liked somebody to push us home in a stroller, but lacking that someone with a quintuple stroller that holds 600 pounds we all made it back on our own two feet. Hueneme 05-11-2007, 12:59 AM Good topic! It really chaps my chops when you idiot, selfish parents with strollers do not pay attention to where you are shoving them and feel the need to drive up on my heel! And then you glare at me for being in your way. When I first started going to Disneyland (many years ago) it never happened. Now it does. I guess parent just have gotten rude. Chuck lauras5boys 05-11-2007, 06:02 AM  WDW heart 05-11-2007, 06:14 AM There is nothing wrong with using a stroller, double or single, in the parks no matter how old your children are. You are the ones that have to push them and handle the stroller. It is a personal decision. I found that they gave my girls a little respite especially in the heat. We used the double wides at the end of June/early July and the only place it was hard to maneuver was Animal Kingdom. Vegitabeta 05-11-2007, 08:35 AM What are we classing as 'children' here? I'm under 18, so does that mean it would be ok to get someone to push me around? WDW heart 05-11-2007, 08:38 AM What are we classing as 'children' here? I'm under 18, so does that mean it would be ok to get someone to push me around? Definitely!! Are you looking for volunteers?? You pay my way in, I'll push you around. Oh ...... and I get to take photos for your Myspace page. :p Vegitabeta 05-11-2007, 09:02 AM Well I guess if you're offering!:p |
