View Full Version : Knott's or Magic Mountain?
HorizonsA 05-03-2007, 11:06 PM Or Disneyland? Ok, I'm torn between these theme parks. I actually have this Saturday free to do whatever and I want to go to a theme park. I keep going back and forth. If I go to Disneyland, I can ride Space Mountain in the dark again, plus all of my classic rides. But I also love roller coasters. If I go to Magic Mountain, I can ride Tatsu, which is AWESOME! At Knott's, they have Silver Bullet and MonteZooma's Revenge, my two favorite rides over there. But Knott's is really a small park, I feel I'll be done too quickly. What do I do? Where shall I go? I could go to Knott's for half a day then use my AP to go to Disneyland. Hmmm..., but Magic Mountain has all those thrill rides! I'm torn. I need a census!
I'm wondering, though, has anyone been to Knott's or Magic Mountain on the weekends? Are they really crowded? A couple years ago, my brother and I went to Magic Mountain on a Saturday and it was empty! We were surprised! I went last Thursday and it was the same thing. Has anyone been to MM recently on the weekend? And Knott's? I won't ask about Disneyland because I already know the answer.
azolivas 05-04-2007, 10:12 AM Disneyland is going to be crowded this weekend, as jr high and high school bands across the country will be performing (our school is going)! My family loves Knotts, never crowded! True you can do the entire park in a few hours, but to us that is better than standing in line for hours at other parks!
Our school also went to Six Flags last weekend for a field trip, the chaperone reported light crowds!
have fun what ever you decide!

It probably won't help you now because it's already Saturday, but when we were there last Saturday, Montezuma's was closed, and I can't remember why, but it seemed like it was going to be closed for a little while.
We usually go to Knott's on Sunday, our it was a rare Saturday visit last week. The park was much more crowded than when we've been on Sundays. We skipped both Silver Bullet and Xcelerator because of the long lines when the lines have usually been non-existent. We went on Jaguar, which is usually a virtual walk-on, and we had to wait quite a while.
The other really stupid, irritating thing that Knott's does is to block off half their main parking lot for some kind of car show, so even if you have an AP with parking, you're scrambling for parking.
HorizonsA 05-05-2007, 09:05 PM I ended up going Knott's and Disneyland today. I went to Knott's first because accroding to the website, Montezooma's Revenge was supposed to be open, so I got there at 9:30pm, bought my ticket then went to the rope drop where they were testing Montezooma's Revenge, so I rushed over there when they opened and went right to the front row. I was so happy to ride it again. I love that ride! I rode it 7 times. Each time I went on it, the lines kept getting longer and longer. But it was worth it. I could ride that ride all day. I also went on the other thrills, Xcelerator, Boomerang, Silver Bullet, but Montezooma's Revenge was the main reason I went. GhostRider is just way too rough for me, hurts me in the stomach.
Then I went to Disneyland, and it was way worse. Took the Monorail in, got a Fastpass for Space Mountain, waited in a 40 minute line for Matterhorn Bobsleds, with an additional 30 minutes because it broke down twice, went on Small World, only ride with little wait; it was hot and too many people. I only waited for Space Mountain, then left. Oh, but not before going to California Adventure to watch the Animation Loop in the main hall. I always do that every trip.

DL is not a casual walk in park. We plan and never wait. First rule--be in line 30 minutes before opening.

I never plan. I went yesterday, got to the park around 1PM. Still did everything I wanted to, including Soarin', California Screamin' and the Electrical Parade. Made it back to Disneyland just in time for the fireworks. We rode every E ticket, including Roger Rabbit, and got in Jungle Cruise and the Tiki Room. We were in line for Pirates at 10:30 when it broke down so we didn't get that in, but we rode Space Mountain again instead.
My friends who got there a little ahead of me did Peter Pan and Pinocchio too. Normally I wouldn't be so energetic, but we had a first timer in our group. He liked Space the best, although he did have fun on Matterhorn.
Just knowing what to do in the evening vs. the day helps a lot. We also used Fastpass well (both times for Space). Pirates and Jungle Cruise (and many others) are walk ons at night, but in the day, they are 30-60 minute waits. Jungle Cruise had a line on the upper level earlier, but we practically had the boat to ourselves at night.
Back to the point: Magic Mountain for sure.
