I know it is dressy, but how dressy? Do I need a really nice dress or will a skirt and sweater suffice? Thanks!

I think a skirt and sweater would be fine for brunch, tea or casual night. If you're having dinner, adhering to the dress code of the evening (i.e., formal, semi-formal, casual) would be your best bet.

But there's not a casual night at Palo is there? I figured there was a standard dress there since it's by reservation only.

Correct. At the very least, for men at Palo (for dinner), you will need to be in slacks, with a collered shirt. Preferrably with a jacket and tie, but those are optional. (I didn't take a jacket on our last 4 night, and it wasn't a problem.)

For women, it would be comparable. AVP usually does a pair of of dress slacks and a nicer top.

Jeans & Shorts are not allowed, and this is the one place where this is enforced.

DH and I consider "cruise casual" more like what Tony described above (i.e., slacks, collared shirt, optional sportcoat, skirt or nice slacks/shirt/sweater, dress). It's like a step below semi-formal wear and what you'd regularly wear out to a nice restaurant for dinner, KWIM? So IMHO, the skirt/sweater combination would be very appropriate for Palo on a casual night. :)
