Does anybody have experience with an online game called Maplestory?

My fifth grader came home today with a story about a girl in her class who plays, and wanted to check it out. She told me enough about what she'd heard that my immediate response was "No;" that VMK is as close as she needs to get to the rest of the online world.

One of the things she said is that the girl (a very quiet, shy kid) is "engaged" to be married in the game, and that (gasp) the girl is claiming to have somehow made actual e-mail contact with her "hubby-to-be."

I'm trying to gather as much information as I can about this game -- especially to determine if it's possible for this kid to really have made contact with someone before I seek out her mom, who I don't know very well.

Any thoughts?
