OK, I think I know the answer, but the wife asked to post, so I will (happy wife = happy life):
Are the swimming pools on the cruise ships saltwater or chlorinated?
OK, you can stop laughing now.

Some ships--don't know about DCL--have special saltwater pools. Everything else is chlorinated.

Except for the kids pool, which I think is 20% urine.

That may explain the warmer temperature!

ROTFLMAO! :D
Disney pool water (at least before the kids jump in) is de-salinated seawater, just like the water that is piped into the staterooms. Add some chlorine and you're good to go!

hmm i thought it was all seawater so as to not mess up the environment. but others seem to say differently... i'm unable to find a faq for it via disneys cruiseline site though.

To be honest, the vast majority of the water used on the ship is seawater - but it is processed seawater so that it can be used for drinking, swimming, etc.
For for all practical purposes, it is "fresh" water with chlorine.

I didn't know that. Cruise ships have onboard desalination plants? I thought they just took on fresh water at each port.

Yep. The last time I was on board I went to a presentation regarding the engineering behind the ships and their operations. The amount of fresh water they take on at port only makes up about 10 -15% (IIRC) of the total fresh water used on board. They have to desalinate water onboard to keep up with demand.
ETA: And to be honest, I had no problem drinking the water out of the tap in my stateroom. Some may not like it but I have had worse at fancy hotels on land.
As of four days ago, the water in the pools was still desalinated ocean water.
