View Full Version : First time to Disneyland with kids in a while
Nfatuated 04-23-2007, 07:43 PM Our kids were very young (Under 3) the last time we went to Disneyland. This is the first time we have been when they can do more. They are now 3 and 5 and I am curious about the Jedi Training for our 5 year old. He loves star wars. Any tips on how to get him on stage? What is the training exactly? For our 3 year old we have been curious about the Princess Faire. She knows all of her disney princeses and I am wondering what this is all about. What are the costs ect...
As this is our first trip with full price kids we are looking at cost cutting on food. Are there any kids eat free deals outside of the park? What are some ideas you have come up with. Any good non chain pizzaria's in the area that deliver.
Any thought or suggestions are greatly appreciated!
Thanks

samsma 04-24-2007, 05:54 AM MY daughter wanted NOTHING to do with the Princess Faire, she hates "girl stuff"! WE did do the Jedi training though. Your son would need to feel comfortable enough to leave you and go up on stage to do this. I did see some little ones get picked, and then they played shy, and wouldn't go up.
When you do go, you put on a Jedi robe, and they give you a lightsaber. You learn a routine(left shoulder, right shoulder, left knee, duck down, right knee) might not be exact, but you get the idea. Then Darth Vader, and Darth Maull come out and the kids battle one or the other, one at a time, using the routine they just learned.
If your son would not be shy, I think he would have a lot of fun. My daughter was 8 and loved it.
To get picked, I would arrive a least 30min before show time, so you can be up front. They pick the kids that stand out, and are excited (jumping, screaming) and so on. Parents get in on it too. Some people made signs, and if there are only a few of them that show, it works.
Good luck!

Go on a weekday, in as slow a period as possible. The first time we went was on a Wednesday when it was not quite spring break. The second time was a Monday during a busier time. The first time was definitely "easier". I would expect it to be easier at an earlier show, too - like the first show of the day.
Dress brightly - or in a shirt that has a Star Wars reference on it that is easy to see.
Arrive early - 30 minutes or even 45 minutes, and get a spot right on the ropes.
JUMP UP AND DOWN when the Jedi Master is picking kids. BE enthusiastic. I had to really "teach" my sons how to do this the first time we went. They would jump a few times then stop. I walked up to my eldest's ear and said: "DON'T STOP."
And be sure to make it clear to him that there's no guarantee that he'll get in!

Well Denny's just outside the main gate, Harbor Blvd., has "Kids eat free days at times". Also this is our totally, must favoritist, most bestest, toally awsomist, wonderific plave to have food delivered. Most Neighborhood hotels around DL has the menu in-room so check it out. There prices are really good also and they have many family meal deals. And....."Drum Roll"...They have the best hot wings We have even eaten. What's the name you ask? Ramano's Pizza and yes they deliver. Phone number is stored in my cell phone and I'm going to let you have it, (714) 530-5300
We hope you have as much as much fun as we do and as often as we do. God Bless!!!!!!!
Nfatuated 04-25-2007, 06:59 AM Thank yor for the responses. Any other suggestions on restraunts outside the park. Don't get me wrong. Its not that I am cheap, I am just not a fan of spending $40 on fast food burgers in the park. In the past I did not care how much I spent because it really just the two of us so I really don't even know what restraunts are outside of the park.
Thanks again

Thanks againPizza Port. With your kids' ages, they can probably split a kids meal. You can get pasta and bread for them. The meals are so huge, we often split. I can feed 5 adults for about $45. Generally my boys will get pizza, and my daughters and I will get Chicken Fuselli and a Caesar salad and bread and share it 2-3 ways. PLENTY of food. We also like DCA at the mexican place on the wharf. The children's burritos are good size. French Market has nuggets and mac and cheese. We were at Disneyland 12 days in Dec, and probably only ate burgers 2x. We like Cafe Orleans. Just not the kids menu. I have a 17yo who isn't good with an adult menu usually, adn we did have problems with the children's menu there, but she did like the 3 cheese Cristo. You can check out the kids' menus around the park here http://www.dlresortinfo.com/DisneylandMenus/dlmenus.html
ETA - AVOID Captain Kids' across the street!!!!!!! There's a Coco's on Katella and Disneyland Drive. Down the road on Harbor (b Target) is a Red Robin, Outback, adn Joes Crabshack.

Yes, avoid Captain kids across the street of main entrance on Harbor. Coco's on Katella is a good value at the morning buffet. Kids can walk up and choose what they want, so they like it.
We eat at least once in the morning at the Carnation cafe, just inside the park on the left as you walk down main street. If you like eggs benedict, thats a great place to get them and the price is ok.
