QuikQuote: A request for road improvements for a $1.1 billion theme park in Newton County has led to new speculation about the Walt Disney Co.'s interest in southwest Missouri.
Rumors that a Disney attraction was coming to Branson were rampant in the mid-1990s. Now, Newton County Commissioners are investigating whether Disney could be linked to a theme park proposal made earlier this month.

Okay honest question here, why would they bother? I mean climate & location do nothing for me. Plus that area doesn't really appeal to the same people Disney parks do... Oh well it'd be nice to visit family down there & stop at a Disney park. :) I'm still not seeing it.

Disney's Missouri Adventure?

Im not either... unless Disney has something in mind to create something that was rather unique compared to DLR or WDW.

But no... not really seeing it, but I would try it out if they did do it.

Disney's Missouri Adventure?

I am picturing a very large agricultural exhibit, like the one in California Adventure on steroids! :D

No Disney theme park will be built...you can pretty much bank on it. If Disney was doing this secretly....do you really think that they'd have it so it was so easily traced to a person working for them?

I disagree.

Really? From what I've seen visiting that area there are quite a few things that appeal to the senior citizen bus crowds. Heck that's probably why my grandparents liked living down there for the period they did. I just don't see people packing up the family to travel to that place.

To me Branson is in a bad location geographically. I'm in the midwest and I wouldn't want to drive there to visit. Flying there would be no fun so I'd count that long line of connecting flights out for most people. Plus the weather down there is just nasty. It's just way too hot & humid for me.

Granted, Silver Dollar City & other amusement park type venues have really improved themselves in recent years, but it still just does nothing for me as a vacation destination with Orlando & Anaheim.

I'd pass on that along with the latest county music shows, famous performers of the past, and the Bible belt. Actually come to think of it I am passing on visiting that area once again, my family is going to be down there in June and I decided I'd just rather be at work than there.

My other thought is that the immediate area isn't full of people that can afford to visit & fork over the money that people who visit DL do. Whatever, just my thoughts, we'll see what happens.

I disagree.

I agree with your disagreement.:)

A rumor is just a rumor, but wouldn't it be fun if it were true?

QuikQuote: After rumors flew last week that Disney was planning to build a $1.1 billion theme park in the area, Presiding Commissioner Jerry Carter got the word Monday that, as he put it, it's "shenanigans."
"I just talked to the vice president of public affairs for Disney, and she said there's nothing to it," Carter said.
Carter said Disney officials didn't recognize the names of any of the three owners of ARM Risk, the company supposedly working to assemble the 1,000 acres of land. "(Disney) can say absolutely that they're not involved in Newton County or in southwest Missouri," Carter said.

People in rural Newton County will have to forget, at least for now, the prospect of selling their land for big bucks to the Walt Disney Co.
