Technical Difficulties? [Archive] - MousePad

View Full Version : Technical Difficulties?

I've noticed that in the last few weeks Mouse Planet's website is extremely slow to download. Each link takes at least 45 seconds to connect (we have high speed internet). It appears to be only this site. All others connect very quickly and efficiently. Just wondering if you have other complaints such as this, or if you are having any technical troubles. Thanks.

Are you having problems on MousePad or MousePlanet or both?

I've actually been seeing slow page loads on MousePad, loading individual threads, but I can't be sure whether it's the server or local network issues.

AVP-

The trouble for me is both on MousePlanet and MousePad. It is really taking an awefully long time to log onto MousePlanet and also to move from page to page. I cannot tell you how often it has turned me away from checking in on this site on a daily basis like I use to do. I thought it must be this site because all other sites seem to download at regular (fast) speed. Help!

Off topic - I know, but is anyone else having trouble viewing things on Mouse Planet because of the slow upload time? I have high speed internet, yet this site (and this site only) takes me an eternity to move from page to page. I've tried getting a response from administration, but they must not be getting complaints from anyone else, because nothing seems to change! It has been doing this for a few weeks now. Anyone else experiencing these problems????

P.S. Please don't get me wrong, this is one of my favorite sites. But the problems with time issues has really decreased my desire to surf this site.

It's not slow for me.
I have not seen it change (in speed) at all.

Do you mean, since yesterday? Since last week? Since last year?
When was MP fast FOR YOU?

And have you checked your computer for viruses, worms, and trojan horses?
They WILL slow you down.

You might want to log out of MP then clear all cookies and temp files from your browser. Log back on and see if that helps.

Its loading very quick here (we are DSL.) Less than 2 seconds per page.

No problems here, tho' sometimes when I'm on here in the morning, it'll take ages to post a quick reply!

Fine for me right now, but it does seem to come and go. If it's particularly bad, try logging out (clear cookies/cache) and back in. If that doesn't help--come back in a few hours.

Thanks for all of your suggestions, but I'm afraid none of them apply. We check for bugs(viruses) weekly, and we also use DSL. We seem to have no problems on any other site (very quick).

FYI - my daughter tried to get on MousePlanet on our PC (I use my laptop) and she had the exact same problems. It is not bugs or my internet connection. It really seems to be only this site. And it's not just at certain times (busyness). It is everytime we try to look at the things on this site. Hope this information helps you to see if others are experiencing the same trouble. Sorry your suggestions don't help me, though. =(

Kat in WA,

Do you have the ability to check the speed from outside of your home? If the problem is with your ISP (or your connection to your ISP) then different computers in the same house will have the same problem.

What does the slowness look like? When you click a link does it take 45 seconds before anything show up, or do you get part of the page and then it takes 45 seconds for the rest? If the latter, what do you see?

Kat, you mentioned in one of your first posts that it was not always consistantly slow... When was the last time it did load up fast for you?

Wait time: After clicking on the Mouse Planet link, it takes about 45 seconds for anything to start happening, then the top "Mouse Planet" logo appears in the top of the new page, and I still have to wait about another 45 seconds for the whole thing to load.

Checking Speed: I'm not sure if I'm able to do that, but I'll check into it. The concern is that all the other sites I visit (using either computer) load very quickly (same as always), so my suspicions were that this site was having the trouble, not my computer or DSL connections.

Time frame: As far as when this all started happening, I'd say it's probably been with in the last 4-6 weeks that I've had this trouble. Prior to that, it loaded just as quickly as all the other sites. We've had our PC for at least 5 years, and the laptop/DSL since Christmas '05.

Thanks for all your suggestions and help. I'm sorry to be such a complaining pain in the tushy, but Mouse Planet has always been my top favorite planning site. I would hate to visit it less because of frustration on my part. I was just wondering if anyone else was having difficulties, or if MP was experiencing trouble. Thanks again .

Kat in WA,

Can you open a command prompt window (Start --> All Programs --> Accessories --> Command Prompt)

This will open a black window with a DOS C:\ prompt.

At that command type: tracert www.mouseplanet.com (http://www.mouseplanet.com)

That will run for a little while adding a new line of results every few seconds. Eventually it will stop. Can you copy and past those results here? Don't worry about the final line saying Destination Unreachable.

To copy and paste out of that window, right click inside the window and select Select All. Then press Control-C. Come back to your MousePad window and type Control-P while your cursor is in the post box.
